Need some advice and trouble shooting help from all the wrench heads....

well I got some sweet plastic waterproof NGK caps and new plugs so shoul dbe good to go, time to do some troubleshooting on the ski if it doesnt fix the prob. THanks

get it running, then dump some water onto the head and plug wires.....



then grab them......if you get shocked, you gots more work to do....:cool2:

lol speaking of such, I just had my b1 on the beach ,it has been breaking up recently after big splash hits in the surf,so i get er going on the beach grab the wires and zapppppppppp, im surprized this brand new 760 coil failed this soon,arent the plug caps made on permanent to the silicone wires? or are they just like the msd boots just clamped on?

not for nothing but i used to have contant random problems on my js550 back in the day.......... and though the shock idea seems like it would be great fun to watch someone else do.......... there is another much less painful way (saw a guy do something similar to a lowered custom painted streetbike once....... jumped so quick he actually knocked the bike over).......... run the thing at night with the hood off.......... it needs to be dark though........ ull actually see a bad wire arcing almost instantly

Better yet, start it at night and use a spray bottle to mist water over the spark plug wires. That's usually the way I prefer to do it.

yup....i just had to do the same thing 2 nights ago......motor breaking up after a splash hit...

replaced the coil and its good again! this was a problem that woudl ONLY manifest in saltwater.... you could ride in fresh all day long, sub down whatever..it'd run fine...


did a salt test last night.........................perfect





butti and I hit the point @ about 730....and pulled off the beach with headlights on..

kinda choppy, but there was some nice shore pound on the southside..

thats because water is actually a terrible conductor of electricity........ its the minerals/dissolved solids in water that actually cause it to conduct

If it's not the wires.....


How is the head temp?. If the head gets to hot or the Temp sensor becomes to sensitive or (if you did what I did and cut off the sensor) and capped the wires from the electrical box. Any temporary salt water moisture on the wire will partially short and the electrical box will go into fail safe more. 1 cylinder or no higher then like 3k.

If you have the sensor still, remove it from the head and tie off to the side.


If you temp sensor & wires are good, then go for the stato (seen this on 2 ski's)


Torr, I doubt your coil is bad at 8 months old. Clean your plug boots and possibly zip tie around the plug.

If you show no resistance you have an open circuit = bad.

you can remove the caps, cut the wires back 1/4", get some needle nose pliers, lightly tug on the wires, if some comes out, keep cutting back until the wires do not pull out.... you can got to most auto parts stores and pick up blug boots and crimp ends also....... or, PM Yamacat, she is selling MSD Plug caps for a good price.

I have brand new caps 2 for $5 shipped to 48 states.

k well im frucked up, i pull each boot off, there was a lil hook around the end of the wire and I pulled it out trimmed each wire so now just a tip of wire is showing. Now..what do I do, I cant seem to hook the piece in and twist it down, theres like a spring in there. Need some help cuz I was gonna ride tonight and see how it was running. can anyone give me a better steo by step.

I have brand new cap resistor type for $5 for 2 of them shipped to 48 states.
and anyone riding should have a spare set in the tool box. verry handy.

my caps are clean and there is no moisture in them when the problem persists,I thought maybe my oring on my head was failing,but after the flat water ride I beat the crap out of it and it did fine,also in brackish water,laying it over still got no break up.Im not saying the coil is bad,but im pretty sure the wires or the connec between the boots and wire is bad

anyone have any experience with these new yami 760 coils,how are the boots connected and how long till they fail?

well today i cut the wires back about 3/4 of an inch.

some loose wires came out but that was from i think when the cap connectors were pushed through the wires, so i cut them beyond that.

so if i still get no reading does that mean my coil is bad? my dad was helping me and he was trying to figure out how if measuring from cap 1 to cap 2 how that would be a loop, to test the wires.

if the coil is shot would the ski still run? or just run really chitty?

and one more question, my old 550 when it run on a hose the exhaust and water coming out the back was still pretty clean, on this ski i have noticed that the water is pretty dirty with alot of black oil and cloudy grey water. just wondering if thats normal or not.


I knew when i bought this thing that i shoulda ran it under load, pisses me off that i have been dyin to ride it and when i did ride it it lasted 5minutes.

any help will be greatly appreciated, if all my trouble shooting fails i guess i will have to take it to Magoos next week.

well good news on my end, all lectric probs fixed, i didnt ride much but my buddy did some subs on it and tossed it around and no probs.

all my problems are fixed, took it to magoos on his last day of work and i guess apparently what i did fixed it. so poped it in the water and ran it around for a while and all was well.

i feel alot better now that all is fixed.
