I have an '03 RN and I've added this so far;

(power/drivetrain) - head, pipe, lightened flywheel, msd ignition, prop, dual cooling, supposedly has better reeds (I got the engine from someone else)

(handling/body) - foot holds, handlebars, shorter pole, turf, intake grate, d cut ride plate

I need more power, I'm too used to it now. All of my friends ride it and love it, but I need more. I'm more into bottom end power than up top, as I mainly screw around freestyle on the lake and occasionally hit the ocean.

What's the next logical step here...I want more performance that I can feel. I do not wish to compromise reliability of the ski and/or make it more high maintenance. I'm about to tear down and do some little things along the way, so now would be the time to make changes...

In short if I was willing to spend $3-4k, what would be the best bang for the buck power wise?

Mag pump, hooker prop, tubbies, and the free steering mod.

Or A/M hull

Or send it off to jet maniac and get a nice 781 BB or to PHP and get a nice 800

You can throw all the mods at it and a bigger motor, but you will still be riding a 100Lb plus hull. You could get an aftermarket hull and that motor will feel bigger or get a bigger motor and still be on a heavy long hull. For 4 grand and what you sell your motor for you should be able to get a BB and total loss which would be a heck of a jump from what you have.

But with total loss and a bigger motor you are most likely going to have more maintenance over a stock 701 with stock electronics.

My home away from home.
We are at 5,000' elevation and my son has a bob gen2 carbon and is (occasionally) flatwater barrel rolling it off his own wake with a 650, 165psi, limited b pipe, msd enhancer, 9/15 hooker. He's 5'7 and 165 lbs. I'd say pick up a hull. Just my .02

He doesn't have it dialed yet but has got quite a few around.

do this. mag pump is a great investment. as your power increases you will be glad you have the hook up needed. and tubbies make your handling increase substantially.

You could rip everything out of the hull and easilyy sell it for another 1K if it's in good shape, that puts you in a good spot for quite a few A/M hulls. Dropping a few inches off the rear and a wider hull will for sure make it feel like you have gained a lot without grandiose power and a modded engine.

I hear you guys on the hull. I've actually thought about this a lot...just taking my driveline and putting it into an AM hull. Essentially the cost would be the same (cost of hull vs. cost of more go-fast mods for SJ). I'm having a hard time breaking up with my SJ though, we've had some great times together. I also love its versatility.

Question on the pump. If I add that now do I feel gains now, or is it simply laying the ground work for future mods? If I went to a bigger motor (say 800+) would I be shooting myself in the foot with still having the stock pump?
