300/440/550 Need help...

Yes the black junk out the exhaust is just loosened up build up nothing to worry about.

Ideally a carb kit is best but I often have torn them down very carefully and put them back together. As long as the fuel pump works and the needle doesn't leak fuel when shut off.

As long as it starts consistantly and runs I would not be to concerned with how smooth it is. Just get it on the water and see how it does.

After taking the carb apart, cleaning it and putting it back together I got my ski to start and idle on it's own. Sounded kind of rough at first, but I went out to start it right now and it sounds strong and as good as it ever did. Going to take it out tomorrow and see what it can do. I am thinking I am going to have to get the carb reset...reading on how to do that on pwctoday....if anyone has any tips, please don't be such a greedy bastard and share. I Thank yous!

Well...just got back from taking it out...a little too early for my taste.

Taking the carb apart and cleaning it did produce some results but not as much as I would have liked. The only way the ski would start is with choke. I ran it a good two minutes just above idle to get everything warmed up. Opened up the throttle and it moved. Only problem is when I fall off, the engine dies (which it didn't do when I bought it). I get back on, choke the bitch, and it starts up. Seems like as I start to give it throttle it wants to die but once it gets moving it's ok until I fall off again. (I am a newb, give me a break). The black cable coming out of the ebox going to what I believe is the stator, has been sliced open and some of the wires have been severed although not completely, from rubbing on something sharp. I put some electrical tape on there before I went out just to make sure nothing touched as a temporary fix. After falling several times and restarts and attempts to adjust the low needle on the carb, the battery died. My guess is because those cables aren't completely connected to keep battery with a good enough charge.

Working on getting a new carb instead of rebuilding the stock 28.

Help me out here guys! What do I have to do to get this thing goin' without probs!?
