Need help with 1982 Surf Jet

I recently acquired a Surf Jet (thinks it's a 1982 since he has that catalog) that the previous owner states it needs a new stator. He says it has no spark. It ran fine for him for about an hour of ride time (his son riding) and then it won't get spark. These have a pull start on them so I'm not sure how to test them. He stated he put a new CDI in but said it still doesn't get spark.

Does anyone know anything about these? I am starting from ground zero as I have no knowledge about these. Thanks for the help!

The motors were made by Fuji. John @ deck jet watercraft use to sell parts. Don't expect much out of them power/speed wise.

I'm not expecting much. Just something else to toy around on at the lake
