Need help fast!!!!

Im going to the lake today and im taking out my 750sxi i do only freestyle riding and i have a after market ride plate on there but the ride plate is very long! Someone told me i dont want a long ride plate? Is this true? Is there any way i could grind my ride plate down? what do you guys suggest please help! thanks
