300/440/550 Need help 550. Starter working, has spark but will not startup.

Here is the story - Had problem with clicking and no start. Tested voltmeter at starter cable and decided to replace solenoid. Good news is now the engine is turning and has spark but it won't startup.
Before I had the problem with the solenoid the ski would startup first try but only run for a few seconds and then die. it would do this over and over. Managed to keep it going longer by adjusting carb screws a little. Put it in the water and with some use we had it going for about an hour or so (lots of fun) before solenoid died.

Now I have the new solenoid in and the thing turns fine but now won't start at all. I think it may be the carb screws I messed with but could it be something else?

I am not getting even a hint of the thing firing.

Thanks for you help.

Anyone?
How do you set the carb screws to stock settings? Do you screw them in all the way an then loosen to the stock positions?
Could I have missed a wire connection on ebox that would cause it to turn and spark but not spark at the right time?

ground the plug to the head and put the boot on it. Hit the start button and see if it's a strong blue spark. Check both plugs. Try pouring a little gas down the carb and see if it fires.

Thanks for all the pointers. I read the article which helped understand how the carb was designed. Used some starter fluid and reset the carb and got it fired up (using a higher idle). Did this out of water so I didn't continue much as I need to get it into the water.

Is there someway to connect these things to a hose for some initial tuning out of water? Just haven't had the time to take it to the water in the last week. not good.

BTW: compression was checked fine. I did see spark but don't recall if it was blue or yellow.

Thanks
