No one has recommended yamaha? I'm gonna have to say FX series. If he rides for prolonged periods, go for the cruiser series, its worth it. Of course you'll want the HO model as well.
Very stable boat, and GREAT in the chop, best handling of all the current skis IMO. My neighbor is 78 and bought a pair of the FX's, but not for casual riding, he rode them all the way up from Florida back home (in annapolis MD). They are great skis, and although the HO's are a hair short on low-end punch compared to the XLT's, I dont think he'll notice unless he's dragging another XL. The FX compared to the XL is a bit bigger, and with more linear like power, and a LOT more reliability no PV's!
I havent heard of one dying yet from wear, and have seen a couple with 1700 hours!
