I was wondering what kinda glass and resin an everything Ells u need for Macking a rocker / footholds and what is the strongest / lightest stuff. And where would the best place to go be? I live I'n Michigan and I'n thinking about doing a test projeckt i have never done any glassing this is vergin waters for me all info would be greatly apreshated! Sorry for the broke @@@ English lol

I get all my stuff from www.uscomposites.com . Poke around there you can get everything you need all the way down to the brushes and mixing sticks... Stay away from the home depot / autozone kits. they don't like water.

I use epoxy 635 thin epoxy resin with a 3:1 ratio. Gives you a little more working time. I sometimes add a thickening agent called cabosil to it as well depending what i'm doing...
For fixing holes and cracks I use fiberglass mat 1-1/2 oz chopped strand mat.
And to cover larger areas like re-enforcing the sides of the hull I use biaxial. 1208 10 ounce or 1708 12 ounce. i used one of those can't remember which one off the top of my head.

As far as things being light thats up to you. Don't over apply resin...

Thanks bud i have a junk 550 hull I'm thinkin about messing Around with before ever touch my sj i do alot of tile work ad stuff I'm not tobad at shaping stuff so i wana give it a go any info on prep work i know the job is only As good as the prep work any tips or anything you can throw out there and what typ of saw blades?

for footholds and other smaller cut outs i just use my dremmel with a cuttting wheel. Get more precise cuts that way. I have used the the reciprocating saw before as well and just used whatever blades i had laying around. If you are using that you are going to have a lot of work ahead of you anyway...

for prep i use like 40 grit sandpaper to sand any areas where I'm glassing and even sand the footholds. Sand any place where you want the epoxy to bond... I also use acetone to wipe the areas clean of debris before laying anything up.

Thanks man ! When i startworking on it I'll let you know how it's going one more thing befor i fOrget when u split the decks do u cut on the inside I'n the factory crease or do i just make my own cut?

I'm not sure what your project is so its hard to tell you how to cut it... If you are doing a top deck conversion here are some instructions that might help:
http://watercraftfactory.com/docs/conversion.pdf (probably a good read anyway if you are gonna split the top and bottom)

If you are keeping both sides you'll have to separate at the bond line. Search top deck conversions or other builds in the ski buildups section on here. lots of good info there.

Good luck
