I just bought a 04 RN, I took it for a ride in 41 degree water temp. 50 degree air temp.
My problem is when i hop it, when i hit the water the ski bogs so bad i almost flew over the handle...it like somebody hit the breaks the ski is a 100% stock i have a 95 SN slightly modded and it doesnt to that... what could it be?

I highly doubt its because of that.

My ski did the same thing while it was on its way down hill as far as running wise. I was running a worx 201 so i don't see how that could be a problem.
I still have not found out what caused my ski to die. It actually never seized or anything i just got so frustrated i ripped it apart and am rebuilding it ground up so I know what makes it tick.

In my case it somewhat did that yet while it was running at a cruising speed 20-25mph up the river it would randomly lurch down and run erratically and sometimes just fall over on it's face. It didnt help that i had a shot bendix and could only tap the starter to crank it over little by little. \

My electrical box was clean when i tore it apart, I rebuilt my carbs, and replaced the bendix also and everything was Clean yet the next two weeks after it ran but sometimes died when i would punch it or just ride around.

Check your compression for some reason or maybe even your reeds. both my compression and my reeds were still ok. so I have NO idea i would be pulling my hair out now if i wasn't completely rebuilding it. You shouldn't have to though.

whatever you do... DONT GET AN SXR!

could be a fuel starvation issue.

i sometimes still get a similar issue where the ski just dies, normally its because i havent warmed the ski up enough

i find the ski need to be ran for a short period in the water before riding off.

once warm i have no issues.

can also happen if i have been riding then resting for too long and the ski cools too much again.

do you turn the fuel off for transport? that can affect the amount of time it takes for the fuel to be flowing correctly, or even simply the fact that the ski has just been transported.

i dont think you will find its a major issue

SXR=POS im not sure if you noticed the water temp. i was running at so that could be a problem...
as for fearlessnuts if your problem sounds like one i had on my 95 check your jets? and cpu

i also have just bought this ski and its from sea level so the jets could be a problem right im 1600' higher then sea what do you think?

don't all jet skis break eventually?a little fiberglass will take care of that.

I would say check your ignition coil. Sometimes, the wires get old and start breaking inside so when you encounter a sudden impact, it will break and then come back. This would be especially relevant in salt water too.

I have seen skis with driveline issues do similar things. The impeller binds and pretty much stops the engine. Also ignition issues could cause it but being an 04 I would have my doubts uless it is used in salt water. Worn out lanyard clips can also make the ski cut out like that.

I would actually look at the carb myself. Based on the description, it sounds like you're really rich and flooding the engine because you're obviously giving it a ton of fuel to jump and then the motor has to clear up that extra fuel before it will run properly again.

I did notice the water and air temperatures and cringed at the idea of both. I highly doubt either of those would cause what you're describing though.
