I have already installed a new WATCON hood seal, but its my first install of one ever and I may not have done it correctly. I just got another one in the mail today, I am wondering if I should re-install in the original channel, which didnt work great for me, or I was thinking if i should line the hood and leave the old seal in. Any one ever try this? Or is this a bad idea. I wonder how that will effect my hood sitting on my ski. Would that make it sit too high on my ski?

i just replaced my dried out and cracked stock hood seal on my 93 SJ with a hood seal kit from JSS. keep in mind i was not getting a lot of water in the engine bay even with the cracked seal.
i just wanted something new. after talking with John over the phone who is very cool guy by the way I ordered the full kit with the top seal. at first he was recommending just the bottom seal
but i went ahead and got the top and bottom.

shipping was super fast, had it in 2 days. anyway i finally made it to the lake yesterday and that seal is pretty damn good. i was glad i got the top because when you latch it down it has to crush
into the foam. he did tell me the seal with absorb water but will not pass though it. i thought that was odd but whatever. he was right it will absorb water but i had less water in the engine bay
over all. i fell off just as much as i usually do.

install was straight forward, used some contact pooky and it stuck right down. i think over time the foam will develop a seam in it from the hood seal. i was concerned at first that the hood sat higher
with this seal, but it turns out it was nothing to worry about.

if you replace the seal you cant go wrong with this one, but to save some cash i would try the other ideas first.

I work at an auto parts place and they have a plastic door molding to help prevent door dings, Im thinking that may be a good thing to try to put a little more pressure on the bottom seal and not raise the hood too much more. I already have the Jetmaniac Brap Strap System. and it works great.

After meticulous rearrangement to meet up with my hood, its a wamiltons and doesnt exactly fit the contours of the old seal, hence the water world experience in my motor compartment. I working barrier for water to enter my compartment. now i just have to figure out how to keep it from getting sucked in through my breather tube up front. My pole is jacked up and its acting like an intake grate scooping water in. I cant wait for the x-metals to get off backorder. New adjustable pole for me!

That's interesting - my Wammer hood is a perfect fit and and clamps down super-tight on the OEM seal, especially with the XMetal billet latch.

I have the 8 hand hole model. and it is just a smidge longer in the rear than the original seal. I had a watcon seal which is just a bit skinnier than my oem was.and it created about a 1/8 of an inch gap in the rear of the hood near the tray. Either it was a bad fit, or I installed the other one wrong, which is a possibility also.
