crankshaft bearing exploded on the old one=(

anytips on these ones?
oil and gas filters
fuel and oil lines
jet pump oil
carb rebuild kit (really needed?)

- 270500138 COVER-PUMP $33.61 (one nipple snapped off when removeing tubes. this is replacement...)
- 420996726 PUMP-OIL ASSY. (290996725) $187.36 (whole oil pump, why connent a old one to a new motor and have it fail later....)
- 293650021 CLAMP-OETIKER $2.91 (little clamp around the drive shaft over rubber boot)
- 271000290 WEAR RING $40.99
- 420995112 FLYWHEEL-ASSY. (290995112) $395.64 (half of the teeth warn off.. not whole teeth but like cut in half from starter. if this the whole flywheel w/ or w/o armature??)
- 293850077 STRAP-RUBBER (293850021) $5.33 (lost battery rubber things over time)
- 420923252 CYLINDER HEAD SILVER 717 (290923251) $183.26

we plan to order our parts soon cause the canadian doller is still doing good...
anytips or things i should know when i attemp the rebuild...? im new at this...
anything up there the prob wont be needed? any thing im missing?

the way i look at it the old motor lasted 8 years getting beat on with min care.. also spent a winter full of water and then was given to us and ran great for 2 more years

why get anothere used one the could die within the next year or so... i can spend the same amount and get one with almost all new parts

save yourself the time and money and just buy a complete motor from SBT with a 2 year no-fault warranty for 1295 and it comes complete with the head , gaskets and everything else you need

put a factory spec I pipe on it, rejet the oem carbs,

you can't go wrong with a 2 year warranty though.... the only time you have a problem with them is when you pull apart the motor and then something goes wrong... that voids the warranty from SBT

i have run one since late 2001-2002 and have had 0 problems with it

but ya like i said i heard from many people they are not that good...
its really jsut luck of the draw..

They are very good about leaving up positive and negative comments.

I used quite a few sbt motors and never had a single problem with any of them.

$200 for an oil pump? RUN PREMIX!

$400 for a flywheel? EBAY!

I with couch rider on this one your list comes to $2700....you can part out what you have and buy another running ski and probably end up with half of that out of pocket.

But hey, it's your money.

I don't like the quality of SBT's work, I prefer to rebuild myself and have peace of mind that the work was done right. Get on eBay and find what you need, flywheel and head on there will be probably around $50 shipped max. If your cases are okay, just get a new crank and a top end rebuild kit, you can be under $1k all said and done and have a fresh reliable motor IMO.

thats what im seeing alot of.. what u said first...
but seeing i dont have that much money it might have to go that way.
as for flywheel and heads i found someone on anythiere site that has a few extra used ones that are like new he we sell for cheep
=P looks like my list is getting smaller and smaller

97 is a differnet size tho...
sbt only does direct swap.. and i dont want to spend more on other parts to get in to work

okay ya i ride the 787 size and ya there is a huge diff but i cant afford that difference lol
if i found one from someone else wouldnt i still need to replace the manifold..?
wouldnt the carbs be diff too? other stuff too?
