is there anyone without a total loss setup that has had an unreasonable failure with them?

i left the rectifier unplugged inside the electrical box :doh: other than not charging the ski ran fine.i rode it for about 3 mos like that just charging it once a week

In other words, getting all the worst of both worlds for Charging and Total Loss! Nice!

Well I always thought that Total Loss meant just that total loss I.E. no charging. If you are running a stator with a charging coil and a flywheel with large enough magnets to drive the coil then it would not be total loss then would it?? I have seen guys run the stock flywheel & stator with the MSD pickup mounted and a small magnet attached to trigger it. Not sure how all that works but it seems like two steps forward and one step back to me.

I'd call that a regular charging CDI ignition. :smile:

I'm not sure why you would do that. MSD TL Flywheels can be had for less than stockers, and pickup plates don't cost much, either.
In fact, that seems kind of retarded. You're not really saving any money, and are giving up reliability and performance.


There are three distinct, huge advantages to MSD Total Loss:
1.) Much lighter Flywheel, making for less rotating mass
2.) No charging of the battery, eliminating electro-magnetic drag on the motor
3.) Fully programmable.

Yup, I am still in the MSD Enhancer mode. I would like to switch to TL someday. Just not in the budget yet. Hopefully soon if I can find a used setup at a reasonable price.. All boats I have ridden with the TL rip compared to anything else.

Just as an update to this: I sent my wife to a Batteries Plus store to get a warranty replacement. That exact store is where I got the first replacement. I even gave her my paypal receipt for the first battery.
They start off by protesting this dubious "Internet" purchase, and said they couldn't possibly warranty something from the evil Internetz.
What f'n morons. Then they put it on their tester and told her one hour later that the battery was perfectly fine, just that I let it discharge to a 10% level.

Uh huh, yeah right fockers. I just hooked up this freshly charged Odyssey battery to my ski and found, to no surprise, that it had just about enough juice to activate my relay.
A cheapo Walmart battery for the Square, on the other hand, does the trick.


Hurrr.....stay away from Batteries Plus in Spokane, WA. Lying fockers.
I will be calling Batteries Plus HQ and Odyssey, and ask if that's how they want their businesses represented.

Add mine to the list of this crap. Mine took a crapper today after assembling my ski(remember this battery is less than 1 year old), was charged 1.5 months ago, and all of a sudden takes a dump when I install it back in the ski. Thank god I have a warranty on this, but it will take forever to get it back from batteries4everything.


Ill go with a jetworks next time!!!!

these are the first batteries that Ive had tha I havent had to charge all year, and now I am afraid they will crap out....

I bought them local with a warranty, but I hope to NOT have to use it.

voltex batterys is a distributor around here, since i installed their A/C in their building they gave me a sealed battery to try out, it was one they had made just for watercraft, that was over 3 years ago, it sat in a drawer for a year or so and i charged it up and its been doing fine since. i am wondering how its going to do with a total loss system

The proof is in the pudding. I installed another battery just now(********ing 62 bucks for a sealed battery from mejer ) , and the ski fired right up.

Oh i know that, but to have battery that is over a year old die on me right away, thats freaking :bs2: :bs2:



You know what batteries4everything told me(thats where I bought it from): "Youll have to freight it to us, then we will test it, and regardless if its bad or good, will ship it back to you"


Ill be damned if I pay shipping to have them look at it for their screwup!!!!!
