I was wondering about raising them. The 6M6 I am currently working on has the exhaust port in the sleeve more narrow and lower than the casting. I have widened the port, but I am not sure about raising it. The sleeve hangs approximately 1/16 inch lower than the casting.

Ive got a 650 cylinder I started grinding on last year too, sort of an experiment if you will.

I wanted to open the exhuast up like that, then advance the timing static, remove the rev limiter, lighten the flywheel and see what its like.

its hard to blow up a 650 right?

haha

Looks like a fun project, and you are right, those cylinders are CHEAP.
why not get the max out of them for cheap?

the experience you get will transfer to a larger engine down the road.
plus, for me at least.
Ive always got a 650 sitting as a spare engine, id rather ride a bit slower, than not ride at all.

I just did the sportport to the exhaust side of my spare 6m6 cylinder. It has the same approx. 1/16" step from the sleeve to the top of the port. It is pretty thin between the waterjacket and the port near the sleeve. I was shocked @ the amount the port was widened.

I also smoothed the flow from the cases to the transfer ports by radiusing the edge of the sleeve, and the edge of the "splitter" between the side transfer ports. I left the intake "tang" of the sleeve alone. I have seen a few pics where the sleeve is actually shortened on one side of the "splitter". Is that a trial and error adjustment, or are there some ways to figure out how far to take it down?

I need to get a short right angle attachment for my die grinder or find a pencil grinder to clean up the transfers. What do ya'll recommend? I have been using air tools with an assortment of carbide cutters so far.

Go 6M6 powa!
