FX-1 My FX-1... What should I do first?

i wouldnt be so quick to jump at the idea of a SJ. I had a 550 before my fx and those were the only two skis i had ridden untill i met up with a fellow member who let me ride his bros square and then his RN. The square was way too stable. Took half the fun out of riding, seemed slow (steep prop and extra weight) even though it had a b pipe while mine was stock. It really was not as fun at all as my fx1. I also rode a sick RN with a 951 seadoo engine in it which abolutely RIPPED. But i only got enough riding in to realize how much power then 951 had, not how the ski handled. Best bet is to get the bigger pump and then some power. If you want wider you can try adding sponsons or something

Well put advice from a new rider stand point.

Hey Goose,
Why do you say you would rather do the hackjob instead of the Bonzi bob pump????
very interested in ur thoughts???!!!!

thanx

He's thinking it's not right to put a kawi pump in a Yami ski. I didn't like the Ideal at first thought. Hell a pump is a pump, no different that putting a Skat mag pump in a whatever.

brrrrraaaaaappppppp
^^ bonzi bob pump is a S/J pump he converts to the stock fittings for the FX1...

im thinkin he might not like the cost??? i want to go with the BOB pump and wondering if its a performance type issue??

Not sure. From what I have read you get more preformance out of the 140 with a 61/62 motor. Has something to do with pressure.

I was not sure what way you were taking about

The Kawi pump actually fits the FX1 inlet, grate, and doesnt change the angle of the driveshaft. The Bonzi mod does bolt in but has a couple of issues that keep it from working as well as it could. Its a lot more work to get the Yamaha pump to mount properly and perform as well as it does in a superjet.

I would advise against the bonzai bob conversion. Yamanube did the Sj pump conversion on what is now my ski and it isnt very complicated. Where the two pump tabs are too long you cut into the hull and then fiberglass, and where the two pump tabs are too short you add shims. The remainder of the modifications (grinding to make room for the pump) need to be done no matter if you for through bob or not

Plus now I can switch out my pump or wear ring with any SJ pump. If you have a Bonzai Bob pump and you chew up a wear ring or stator you are SOL until you buy the parts, send them with $$$ to bob, and get them back.

BTW the SJ pump doesn't change the angle of the driveshaft. I just checked my splines after a couple seasons and they are mint

Keep the FX1 and do the pump mod, you will like it. Plus EVERYONE has a dam superjet, there were only like 1500 FX1's so I say keep it.

I couldn't agree more. KEEP IT!!! I finally got some sense knocked into me. I was going to buy an already modded 96+ SJ, but now I'm going to stick with my FX-1 and mod it. Looking to do the pump mod but just looking for someone locally to help.

Anyway, you should keep it...:headbang:

Keep the FX and learn to rip on it to where you feel comfortable riding it. Then after the fact, climb on a SJ and make your decision. After riding my FX for son long, a SJ feels like a "tank" to me. I personally am glad I stuck to my FX and put my money into it rather than a SJ... Personal preference....

I guess it is all a matter of preferance, but to me the fx-1 seems much more stable than a sj, esp. at full speed. Think twice about the ocean, you will never look at flat water the same again!!

Is there any following for surf around CT? I'm dying to get on the ocean, but have noone to go with...

There HAS to be people in the Sound

I absolutely agree with MNTURBO. After the Blowsion conversion, doing it over I would cut into the hull. I had to anyways to get everything lined up well. Being able to swap pumps (like swapping in a 140 mag) is the way to go.
