FX-1 My FX-1 Flatdeck project

This off season I flat decked my FX-1 . The reason was that it wassimply too narrow for my taste. I felt cramped on it and I did not like riding with my feet so close together. I think this flat deck will give me the ability to ride more aggressively and carve it with the surf inspired style I prefer.

I am posting this because I did a few things differently than other flat deck projects I have seen, mainly the aluminum brackets i used to support the deck. In some instances , I sacraficed by using heavier materials in order to make the deck more ridgid and construction easier.

In order I ………

Cut off the gun walls, defoamed it %100

5200 the seams of last year’spump graft, reinforced from the inside with cloth and epoxy resin. Relocated the exhaust tube down a few inches , so it is under the deck

Ran a new hose for an eventual trim, a new hose for my steering cable. Replaced wet closed cell foam with Styrofoam. Made support brackets out of angled aluminum to support my flat deck

Made a deck out of thin plywood, cut it to form. 5200 and screwed it down

Sealed up all the seams with cloth , epoxy resin , and filler. Then went over the whole thing with a layer or cloth and resin

Next step is to add the foot straps and make some custom front footholds way up front where the remaining gunwall is. And yes, I will paint it this year
