Well it didn't take very long for you to upgrade. Nice bike.

I'm happy with what I did though: bought a $200 hardtail to get some experience and figure out what kind of riding I'll be doing, upgraded it a little to make it more rideable with new brakes/tires, then bought a sub-$1000 well-built bike that suits what I do---4" of travel should work well around here once I get the shock/fork tuned.

It's not a $3000 bike, but I don't need that and probably never will, but it is a solid performer that looks good.

I'd love to get some white rims to go on it, I think those setups look really sweet.

I did the same thing when I got into MTBing. Bought a used bike from a friend for cheap to see if I would like it. Didn't take me long to catch the bug, and upgrade to a new bike. That was 15 years ago.

It'll take a little while to get used to the full suspension. Crank the rebound all the way up during road rides, and it'll cut down on the pedal bounce.

Good choice. I have to tell ya, riding that FSR suspension on the KHS is amazing. It's even better knowing you didn't break the bank to get it. I love my XCT555. I just ordered my girlfriend an XC004.
I keep my hardtail (Trek 4300) for road rides and off-day training. Eventually, I will probably sell it and buy myself a second FS bike- looking at another KHS or maybe a Specialized next.
Is that the SID fork on there?

It's a new Rockshox Reba Team which sells for $500+. I'd say it's definitely the best part on the bike and really makes it worth the $950 I paid for the whole bike.

Just corrected my first post, I didn't get it off craigslist but off the KyMBA's forum from a local rider. He sold his cyclocross bike to build this and realized he'd rather have a CX bike but can't afford to have both. A friend of his runs a bike shop which is a KHS dealer so he was able to build this pretty cheap compared to most people.

The best part is he's almost my exact size, maybe 15 lbs heavier so the bike is a perfect fit from what I can tell.

I haven't tried the eggbeaters, I put my platforms on to test ride it last night when I met him. He did give me a new set of cleats for them.

Our high might hit 25 today, time for a frozen trail ride once I adjust the shock pressures.

Great climbing bike. Pretty light but they 'feel' heavy in a good way. Hard to explain...I guess they never feel like they will kick out from under you. My buddy down the Cape has one. After I rode it I wanted to throw my own bike in the dumpster.

Just got back a little bit ago from my first trail ride on the KHS. I like it except the shifters. It's got the Shimano combo levers and shifting isn't so 'natural' on them---I have to really stick my fingers out pretty far to move them.

Some people like them apparently, but not me. I'm going to stick the thumb extensions on to see if that's more workable but am looking around for triggers and hydraulic levers to put on.

Hey Darin, I ran them (non disc) on my Gary Fisher, it took a while to get use to them. Once i did they were nice. I believe there is a reach adjuster on them to make them easier to use. Check them out and give them a few weeks.

I have them too. They don't take long to get used to. I told myself I was going to change them at first, but was too lazy to do it and then I got used to them.

I don't understand why a lot of people are haters on full suspension. I ride for fun but mostly for exercise and I don't care if it is a little heavier or doesn't climb as well as long as it's comfortable. It's just more exercise to move it and that is fine. That is why I'm out there. I'm sure my prostate thanks me too.

I'm hoping that's what I do on the levers too, but we'll see.

I totally agree on the second paragraph, but too many people focus on the performance aspect when I'm just out to have fun and get some exercise, however long it takes.

I'm still working on my legs so they can make it up long hills. They are getting better, but still a long way to go.

Spending $200 to buy 20gram lighter shifters (like some guys do) just blows me away.
