Super Jet msd total loss ?

ok have a few questions about the msd thats in my 2003 sj. the setup i have is this one posted heremsd.jpg now there is 4 green wires coming off the stator 2 for channel A and 2 for channel B now channel A goes to 2 brown wires in the msd box does it matter which 2 wires go to which brown wire ?? and the same question for chanel B

and now for question 2 has anyone mounted these boxes in a waterproof box(yes i know there water tight) i will be doing alot of surfriding and (learning) i want extra security for this goldplated setup especially since it will be in salt water.. will the box overheat inside of something ?want to drybox the coils and selenoid too do they need ventilation ? if anyone has done so or has pictures would greatly appreciate them

Well you need to keep in mind that channel A would be for one cylinder and cylinder B would be for the other cylinder. The triggers just complete a circuit when the magnet passes over them so there isn't really a positive or negative side to the pickups. That's why they're both the same color.

This wiring diagram should help you understand what colors do what... http://static.summitracing.com/global/images/instructions/msd-42351.pdf

There are a few people who have successfully pulled off waterproofing their total loss systems. I did as well but it takes up a lot of room and/or makes it more difficult to get access and troubleshoot the system if something goes wrong. The threads are fairly scattered so you'll need to search for them.

alright thanks was maybe gonna use a seadoo dry box link was just a blank page i have the book that came with the msd.. and why is it a bad idea for salt water thats my reasoning for the dry box

tourqe spec on the flywheel bolt ??

Are the green wires from the stator/pickups still in pairs?
If so take out the #1 plug put it just before TDC, now connect 1 pair of green wires to the pair of browns in the 6 pin connector going to the MSD module. (doesn't matter what wire to wire)
One way do do this:
Take off the msd backing plate, turn ON the S4 switch on switch bank #3 (LED timing mode) now see if the LED comes on about 28* degrees before TDC on the #1 cylinder, if so, your on the right pair of greens, if the LED light comes on with the #2 cylinder you have the wrong pair for the brown leads and these would go to the yellow pair of wires for the #2 cylinder (MSD orange wires would be for a #3 cylinder if you had a triple cylinder engine)

The 2nd way to check:
Would to leave the LED in the off mode and turn off the electric start switch and the start retard switch, then turn on the power to the msd and lay the sparkplugs on the top of the head and turn engine clockwise and watch for spark, as soon as you have a spark , stop and then look at which piston is near TDC, match green pickup wires so the #1 cylinder matches the spark just before TDC.
Chuck

thanks grealy detailed i had the flywheel off and looked at my book am i rite when i say that if you are looking at the stator pick up coil b is on the left and a is on the right so pick up A goes to brown and B goes to yellow (msd total loss of mind )

ps workin on the dry box will post pictures when i finish of the process

I forgot!
do it like supertune said so you know which wires/coil pack is firing for which cylinder. if you get them backwards the ski will not start and maybe backfire. then it is as simple as switching the sparkplug wires at the coils to get the right one to the cylinder. check it with the spark is probably best. do you have the wiring diagram. it is pretty easy and the instruction tell you how to time your motor.

well finally finished it used a drybox from walmart and a old seadoo electrical box to make the waterproof fittings. then used epoxy to weld it to box ran stainless steel bolts through it for extra security with silcone and bolted msd to bottom of the box with 2 more stainless steel bolts sciliconed also.( Seeing how just 1 water proof gromet is 15$ at the boat store and needed 3 that was just too pricy )then just used the wires from the seadoo worked amazing took out today and when i came home washed it out and then checked it not a single spec of moisture gonna build a bracket to mount box on just wanted to take it to the lake today so zipties and bounge cords had to do.

thanks for the help on the wiring
