MSD Total Loss Waterproofing (Need pic of Internals)

Hey,

Can someone post a picture of what the internals of the MSD Total Loss Ignition looks like? I am curious if it would be possible to use potting compound to waterproof some or all of the electronics that are inside. I know there are some sort of switches in there that you use to set your timing curves but I have never seen what they look like.

The curve switches are on the back of the brain and require the brain to be removed and then a backing plate to gain access to the switches.. I suspect filling the box with potting compound would make repairs next to impossible....

These are the dip switches, under the back cover of brain. They are very small, you use a pic to move each dip switch..

Yea those switches and whatever is behind the backing plate is what I wanted to see.

Isn't the main reason that they need repairs in the first place because of salt water intrusion?

You could have a coil go out, or a starter relay go out, fuse blow, just to name a few. A sealed dry box is good.. it’s the potting compound that’s concerning. You have some that’s removable to allow servicing the ignition items in the box ?

Edit: Are you taking just potting the brain only ?

Just re-read your post, your thinking to pot the inside of msd brain ?

Edit: the dip switches are cast into the potting compound under the rear cover.

Yea I was only talking about potting the internals of the brain, assuming it could be done without interfering with the switches. I have only just started looking into the Total Loss Ignitions, mainly MSD and ATP Flame TS2 and it seems like the only complaint against the MSD TL is the reliability of the brain. I am also just curious what the dip switches and whatever else is in the MSD brain looks like. Never seen one in person and havent been able to find a pic of the internals/switches.

From your last comment it sounds like the internals of the brain may already be potted??

A piece of Gorilla Tape over the switches will absolutely not allow water in. They are filled with potting and are therefore a non-serviceable or repairable item even at the factory. Faulty brains go in the garbage can.
