Does the Max Timing Retard switches have any effect when checking timing by hand?
I move the switches from 0 to -7 and there is now effect.

No. It takes that much off of the static timing with the brain. Figure out where you are by hand. Then calculate where you want that switch to be to adjust it digitally up to 7 degrees.

Thanks. I read the manual again and saw that Start Retard must be on, but then no spark. Prefer to set the Static exactly to timing I want(-0 degrees)

If you set it to 0, then there's no adjustability to advance it later. advance it to like 4 or more degrees then retard it using the switches. Lets you play with timing more easily for tuning...

Almost blew up my brand new motor setting static to 35 and using the switches to dial it back. My brain had faulty switches and it was running at the static setting despite where the switches were. Talked to my builder, he highly advised to never rely on the switches in the event that they go bad.

I am paranoid after hassles I have had with TS2. Will rather adjust timing plate
