I was thinking alot on my MSD TL setup, as its the first time ive done it, and im now on work 2000km from my ski and was wondering if i did it correct. I read the manual that i got with it (bought the kit brand new) and allso the manual you can download. So i hope a MSD TL expert will tell me if i did it right or wrong, as i have no one near me that knows anything about it. (the think that worries me most, is the static timing)
First thing i did was mounting the trigger plate and determing the spacers need for correct gap to flywheel. i added to spacers on each pickup.
Then i boiled the flywheel for 10 min, and put it on the crank.
i determined TDC on the front cylinder with a dial indicator.
I marked the TDC with a pen, on the crankcase. I put the mark in a straight line, from the flywheels first "." indicating 0 degrees.
after the flywheel cooled off i put one of the degrees sticker on. I now needed to set the static timing, wich was the part i was/am worried about
I put the brain in test mode, with the LED flashing when triggered.
Rotated the flywheel to get a trigger on the LED, after some time and loosning and tighing bolts, moving the trigger plate trough the holes in the flywheel. i got it to trigger at the 28 degrees (between 25 & 30 on the sticker) static timing that DASA send me on spec sheet.
When i do a full rotation, should the ignition trigger at the excact same dot, on each side of the flywheel? I gues the one set of dots belong to one channel and the other for the last, or what?
because something in my mind tells me, that when i rotated the flywheel, it would trigger on 28 degrees and the sticker and then again on the other set of dots (no stickers) but this time not no the same dot/degrees.
After this, i set the dip switches like DASA send me.
Hooked everythig nice and easy for, for test riding.
On a alu plate (untill im certain it is 100% ok, then its going in a 100% water proof enclosure), everything with solid ground/earth
Both coils, with right hole grouned w. wire
and all grounds on msd plate to a big ground wire 25mm2 to the battery seperately.
When i hit the start bottom, nothing happened.
Switched spark plug wires and the baby fired right up.
I have only done 30 mins on it, and it pulls like a freight train. checked sparks plugs and they are light dark. A little rich, allso looked for pitting on pistons. nothing at all.
Im very scared about deto and setting up this ignition wrong.
Hope you guys can tell me if i did it wrong or right
