The paint will peel within the first week on a brand new mount from the vibration. A broken mount is very noticeably broken. The rubber part either seperates from the metal insert (part engine screws into) or from the base itself. When installed, you can very easily see its broken, because when you pull up on a part of the motor, it will come up, clearly not attached. I ride for the first year w/o checking the mounts, after that, I would check them by pulling on the engine every or every other ride. Usually one or two goes to let you know they need replacing, but people have broken 4 at the same time by doing backflips, etc. Replace all four at the same time, otherwise the newer stiffer ones will put more stress on the older ones, and its a matter of hours before they go and you again have to pull the motor (if on exhaust side)

never seen a broken mount before so bit concerned over the ones i just pulled from my octane they are all still intact but if i pull hard enough you can see through the base part as you can see by the pics they were in a bad way

they are broke then replace them. They are starting to devulcanize, and very very soon, that big chunk of rubber will be completely seperated from the metal base. The rubber should be 'glued' to the metal base all the way around the edge. Throw those mounts out.

When you referred to paint peeling I thought you meant the paint on the rubber, that stuff chips off fast. Those mounts look a couple years old.
