Motor Mount FIX??? :)

im sure others use this method or have found a good reason not to, but i hate buying motor mounts and thought that this idea of a longer bolt and nut combination would hold all three pieces of the motor mount together much better than normal setup which always rips the top cap off the rubber...................what do you think???

*possibly too little play allowed?

Basically what is going to happen there is that you will compress the mount when you tighten it up,not really the best Idea,it could work in a pinch though!

I've thought of that too, but was stopped by one concern / problem. When you bolt the mounts to the hull, how do you get your nut to thread on to the long bolt once the motor is installed? The nut is encased in the mount, right?

It might work if you attach the motor to the mounts, then lower the motor in and anchor it to the hull. Just an idea.

Run the bolt thru the bottom of the mount with a lock washer.

i would install the mounts on the motor before it goes in that way no mount squishing would be involved.....the bolt and nut would not be cranked down together...maybe a little loctite to keep it from vibrating off

Compressing the rubber mount would be a bigger concern. Also if there was not enough movement you could snap the bolt from the vibrations.

You must know some secret that I do not, please explain how you are going to tighten that bolt without compressing the mount?

most important thing of all is the mount will be bound, or compressed and will not be able to do its job which is to absorb vibrations and shock/ impact. so where will that be transferred to now? thats right, the inserts in the hull and the hull itself.

which would you rather replace, the mount or the insert and maybe a hull? the mounts aren't looking too expesive to replace now are they?

i have one mount like that on my boat right now-- top rubber ripped off-- drill out center of whole mount for bigger bolt- weld nut to bottom of lower piece-- bolt through bedplate and entire mount to hold together aaaannnnndddd................. get ready to vibrate your ass off-- did this in a pinch about a month ago and actually forgot about it until this thread-- holding up just fine so far

Just put Kawi mounts on there. They last twice as long as yami ones.
im not as familiar with them but know they are similar shape....is that possible? too bad no one makes a good aftermarket mount.

PS i know this setup is not going to work but just like to hear why not from people so i dont try it:smashfreakB:. kenny keepers seem to help preserve mounts long enuff for me
