More flatwater backflip attempts - still can't get it

I don't have the problem of looking at the front of the ski but I typically see a cloud in the sky and that becomes my new focus point until I end up on my head in the water...lol

Because its like what Pastrana says, until you get used to the trick and master it, your adrenaline takes you for a trip where time feels like it literally stops or slows down in slow motion...

Good thread! Im taking notes... I cant really say what Im looking at when the ski is upside down, I try to flick the head back and spot the water but it all seems to happen so quick, no slow-mo for me haha.. I'm going to try the hips forward next outing..

Did hit it off a boat wake this past weekend and I really feel the same way, I feel they don't teach you much as they are so different to hit vs a setup wake. Now if the lake we ride on would not be windy for 1 day this year..

What kind of engine are you running?...

8mm stroker lamey 82mm non-pv cylinder (803cc) 190 psi, Xscream 46's with modified intake and V-Force Delta II's, modified 'b' pipe with mod chamber, MSD total loss (single coil). I'm running a hooker 10-16 and stubby cone with 85.5mm SJ nozzle. The hull weighs 88 lb (12 lb XFT topdeck conversion) and is shortened 2.5"

Have you played with more prop? You have enough power to pull a steeper one, which would hit harder and give you more speed. Your boat may "feel" strong, but even at full rpm that prop only moves so much water. A steeper one would accelerate the ski quicker, although seat of the pants may not feel as impressive.....................

The SS865s are pulling MUCH steeper props than that. I am working through the same issues. I just built a 8mm dasa pv motor, and am running a 14-19, in a 145 mag. It feels too steep to me, but the actual pop and height I get of waves is significantly higher than when I had my 5 mil w/13-17 that "felt" like it revved quicker. Hard to explain.................

You need the boat to pull from idle until you leave the water, and a small prop, although it feels good, falls off quickly. Just my opinion from my testing........I could be way off, but its a thought. With that much power and a light ski, that thing should come around.

I tried to do a couple backflips on a bike with a guy teaching me (ramp into water. I'm not insane). He was telling me try to look at my heels. It worked perfectly.

It seems like the backflip on a bike and a jetski are mechanically similar. Head back, back arched, hips to the bars.

Just thinking with my fingers. :)

Wrong. My cylinder porting is NOT Xscream porting. My exhaust ports are 0.5mm higher than what they do. Because of that, my off idle is not as big, but my midrange is gigantic. I had a 13-19 hooker on there, and lost ALL bottom end I had (top end was screaming fast). I need a prop that's "loose" enough to slightly cavitate off idle, then grab a ton in the mid range. My 10-16 seems to do a great job of it.

Except for the fact that a bike weighs 20 lbs and the ramp is perfectly curved. Tossing a 280lb ski over your head off of a 2' wave that's different EVERY TIME YOU HIT IT, is not mechanically similar. :)

I should have worded that differently and said "SEEMS like you have enough power to pull a steeper prop". You answered my question........yes, you have played with props. :)
At least you know your setup and know what it likes.....that's a big start!

What I've see is that people move farther the prop (not closer!) - this makes the prop cavitate a bit, but when it hooks up it hooks up with full potential of the motor - that iseasy - just add some shims on the imp shaft - maybe it will work better...

Great stuff anyways :) Pretty BR's!

Went back to my "old style" and JUST about have it now!!! The ski did one, and I almost made it for the whole thing. I tried another one right after this and kicked too hard and the nose of the ski nailed me in the back. That put me out for the rest of the day. I think I'm only one or two more rides away from figuring them out!
