I was looking into buying a js 550. From what ive heard they are good skis. Ive ridden 650's and know they pull pretty good. I just wanted to know if there were any mods to do to a js 550 to make it just flat out haul an pull hard without having to do an engine swap or anything too major.

^ yup.

js550's are good lake cruisers, and fun to learn on. but the SJ is a real good boat that will take you further. also, yami motors swap from 1990 to today.

JS 550 is fun ski to learn on but if you can find a JS 550 sx itll be far superior.

a 550sx will smoke a 650sx all day... plus much little so more fun to thro around

but if you can find a cheap yamaha then just go that route. a stuper jet with 650 will have good power. Plus once you master the ski itself, then you can upgrade some mods or simple swap a 701 in.

I started with 2 550s. They were ok. One runaway on the trailer and killed itself tho. That was a scary learning experience.

They have a really small tray, and the piston port ones need to be sealed really well, and tuned perfect to run right, at least that was my exp.

If it was cheap, I'd get it. Ride it and learn a bit about skis with it. When you outgrow it, get a square nose and it will be a whole new world and be all new fun over again.

yea 12 in by 44 in..... but the whole overall ski is very skinny

they tend to require a lot of constant tuning, poor design maybe

Ive never owned a yamaha but they seem to run very well.... but price reflects that
