ive got what is beleived to be an old Head design carb.

Bored to 53mm, so thin it actually pokes thru the carb case in some areas.

its also modified to be annual discharge, this carb works pretty well, bottom end is about like a stock 44, but mid and top are much better.

Now this may seem silly but since 38s are so "easy" to find... is it worth it to have them taper bored and modified or such?

I plan to have mine straight bored above the throttle plate to remove the bore obstruction, but is it worth it to go further than this point?
From what I have read here boring out the OEM 38mm carbs is a waste of time, Jet Ski Solutions used to do it. I have a set of Pro Tec taper bored 38mm non OEM carbs that work great. I haven't used them in a couple of years but I don't want to get rid of them because they worked so well. I know there was a set for sale here for under $100.00 a couple of months ago.

im asking that 44 modifications because example Air-time products is selling 44 SBN modified to use 48mm throttle valve and stock venturi. i do little bit research and find out that using that 44 venturi gives more signal than those straight bore carbs and carb with venturi will give much better bottom end and easier tuning at bottom? am i right? When straight bore carbs will flow much better but bottom end will sacrifice so those are only for high speed race use?

And how i find out is mine 44 sbn:s oem or aftermarket Mikunis?
