Freestyle Modding footholds?

I bought my superjet with these foot holds in them and I really dont like how they fit. The previous owner thought they were 24/7 footholds(can anyone confirm that?)
Im looking to possibly slightly enclose them a bit more much like the xft footholds and make more of a cutout where the side of your ankle fits into instead of bowing my feet out like a duck to sit them in the holds lol

Has anyone done this? Should I do it even or would it be easier to just replace the footholds in whole?

Also the picture w/o the turf was taken right when i ripped it out all turf is removed now

Man those things look like a pinky toe hold. Sanoman and mcdog have modded footholds that were already installed. I've modded some XFT footholds to fit in an aftermarket hull. Go for it! Where there's a will, there's a way.

Thats exactly what they are haha. How would I go about modding them really? I have an Idea of how I could possibly make it come out and enclose more, just not sure how I could really cut an "ankle groove" Id call It

Also how many layers of 1208 biax would be good for that?

I mod all footholds I run. Last pair I installed ended up wackin off like 3/4 of em off! I like to get em as far back as I can and I mod the gunwales to get the holds in a super wide stance. Last pair I did I put half enclosures. Just enough hold the toe and still be able to ride in surf stance in em. Best footholds I ever stuck my feet in and I regret sellin the ski... I posted some pics not to long ago. Maybe a link in my rn for sale add?

buying a new pair of hold would def be easy, but cutting out the back half, and laying new glass wouldn be that hard, modding ur own you have endless possiblity to make them just what u want, plus after ur done you can say they are custom!! and u will feel a great deal of acompliment!!

Kind of putting these two quotes together. Both are the right idea IMO. Mod what you have and you will totally dig them. The sawzall and jigsaw are your friends. I have no idea what my ski had last year, but I made them super comfy. Really had to kick in, but they felt very solid.

These pics are not in order, but you get the idea. I made sure there was enough room for my ankle to bend forward and not let my shins hit the cutout in the rails.

Hindsight notes that I would change would be. Run tray padding all the way back. Cut into the tray a bit from the toe area to the heel area to angle the footing area forward for a more natural angle. I would still use 25 mil padding on the bottom and 1/4" stuff on top of toes and basically in between anything else that you feel needs to be be cushy. Kicking in will be solid.

Sorry for the huge ramble.

The one bad thing about having ankle cut outs is, your ankle rides on the side. That seems fantastic because it gives you more traction. However, you quickly learn that any place that your shoe doesn't cover doesn't have skin for long. When I ran the WDK holds with ankle cut outs, my ankle would be raw and bleeding by the end of every weekend.

This would be really easy to do. Grind off what you don't want, add and shape foam where you want to build up material, then put a couple of layers of glass over everything you changed. Don't forget to account for the thickness of turf and I would also leave some extra room in a few areas for underpadding. Should be pretty painless, I imagine it would only take 3 or 4 beers to get done.

Thanks for all the info guys I'm definately going to give it a go, seems painless enough haha. My question is though, Im going to defoam and refoam with polystyrene so what order would I do this in? Cut out whole tray with footholds, tear out foam, put in polystyrene and then reinstall tray then mod the foot holds? do the foot holds first then refoam? Or what order would work best?
