MO - 10% ethanol requirement

Missouri just enacted a law that all gas sold must contain at least 10% ethanol (I think our Governor has ulterior motives like a brother that is heavily invested in an ethanol joint venture, but that's another story).

Question is, will this ethanol level cause any problems? Any preventative actions to be taken here?

Pretty sure some of the gas I have used has ethanol in it also. All gas in the City of Milwaukee is the same thing. Only way is to go out side of the county and get gas. I have never really noticed any kind of difference. But its a basic kawasaki motor with a pipe and carb.

in your car you're going to lose some MPG overall.

in your ski - it shouldn't make too much of a difference. Biggest problem we've had down here (in boats) is with ethanol - you have to pay more attention to the fuel/water seperator...do we even have those on a ski?

I don't know where you are from but it is VERY hard in St. Louis to find a gas station that doesn't already have 10% ethenol in it already. They started the switch to ethenal mixture probably around 9-10 years ago.

Katie - unless they are not disclosing it on the pump I think you could get it in Jeff City all over the place. We don't have the more stringent rules (such as emissions testing for example) like St Louis or Kansas City here.

I believe they have to disclose it on the pump-I used to work for a gas station about 10 years ago when they started it and if I remember correctly they do have to state whether there is ethenol in the fuel. I guess just St.Louis and most of the suburbs right outside St. Louis have already switch for awhile now. I have heard of talk of one gas station in St. Louis that didn't switch to the 10% ethenol but never seen it myself. I was only concerned when I was driving a ton and wanted to get more gas milege as ethenol will make your MPGs go down, but since I now have a diseal it doesn't matter.

I work for the ag industry so I will support it because its my paycheck. Now go buy some corn!

It has been like that around here for a long time now.

The only concern I have heard of, is if you let the gas sit to long, a gas/ethonol mix will seperate out water faster than gas alone.

If I remember correctly alcohol burns colder than gas, and around here it has been 10% in the summer and more in the winter for years. No big problems, as the octane still has to remain the same, but the price is higher in NY and CA because of all the different blends required everywhere. Also no fuel water separator on a Kawi, but there is on a SJ. Alcohol does absorb more water than gas.

You and our beloved Governor's brother have a financial stake in it.
