Has anyone milled an aluminum ride plate to save weight? I was thinking of going composite but really don't care what it's made of but wanted to save some dead weight. I was thinking of taking it down to half of it's current thickness and bevelling the rear.

Crazy cracker. Do a composite one. I have some pva I can bring you Next week or so. Also some pv6 if you want to play with plaster.

Milling might get expensive or very time consuming if you're thinking about taking a grinder to your current ride plate. With a blow torch and some work, you could bend some 0.100" thick aluminum sheet to work and that would be pretty light and very cheap. Composite would be easier though.

Just make one out of fiberglass or cf and it will be less than half the weight.

The aluminum plates need reinforcement ribs because the metal is so soft. I wouldn't recommend machining them down because it will just end up breaking IMO.

I ended up making my own fiberglass plate from a mold off a R&D Rius ride plate and it was almost three pounds lighter.
