Hell yeah!!! love the dunes. its all dunes with silverlake on one side and lake michigan on the other. there used to be a mud pit in the middle for the trucks but they have blocked that off. just got to dangerous with everyone breaking chains and stuff. would be sweet to have some woods to ride through! I go up 4 or 5 times a summer. let me know when you go...

I believe its all dunes, but there are many local trails not too far.bring your ski, and rip up silver lake!

me & a buddy are planning a week there with our 4 wheelers, bikes & skis, but i was debating on if i need to put my paddle on the bike or if there was any other riding there as well, i'd hate to put the paddle on & then find some awesome rock face or dirt washout to play on, but i'd hate to be stuck on a knobby if there's no other terrain....i got rid of my spare wheel setup & don't want to change a tire while i'm there

Michigan has a ton of trails. Sand to loam. But unfortunately most of them are to the North. If you don't mind a couple of hours drive there is some great woods riding.

more than likely it's higher than the regulation for MO, i'll likely just buy a flag @ a shop there, ours are always shorter than where i end up riding at...

but i'm not planning on driving anywhere to ride, just there

are they pretty strict on any rules??

You can get flags at David Allen Racing, its right next to the dune parking lot entrance, if I remember correctly they are like $20-$25. I'd put the paddle on unless you plan on going trail riding outside the dunes while you're there.

You are supposed to be under a certain Db level to get in but most of the time they don't check, also must have a spark arrestor which they are pretty strict on in my experience. Really other than that just use common sense and you will be fine.

Either have a couple willing friends or be sure to bring a cart for the ski because there is no launch area and you can only get so close to the beach w/ a vehicle.

yeah, they are cery strict on the flame arrestors. and unless your crazy loud they usually let that slide. I beleive at david allen racing white poles with flags are $20 red and black are $25.

like fst89 said, bring a beachcart! cuz to get to lake michigan you can only park like 30 yrds away.

you deff need to putt the paddle on cause the dunes have no trails in them and youll halfto putt the skis in the back of the truck to get them into the dunes if you wanna ride on lake michigan cause they no longer let you pull trailers into the dunes
and then youll halfto carry them from the truck to the water cause they no longer let you ride up to the water but its only like 20ft to the lake from the boundry line but let me know when your gonna be goin i go up there quite often and ill take a trip up there for the weekend and rip around with you guys i got a bike and ill bring my skis

I think it's more like 100ft to the water from the boundry line. No quads or trucks near the water.
I have a picture from years ago when we could tow trailers into the dunes. I pulled my skis up the biggest hill on the trailer. It was pretty funny. I was really glad I made it to the top.....backing down would have sucked.

Yes, paddle for the dunes. There are good trails not too far from there, but I MUCH preferred riding with a paddle in the dunes.

Make sure you have a flag mount on your bike. They sell them at the shop there, but from my memory, it's not always one size fits all. Make sure the flag mount isn't angled back too far or you won't reach the 10' bar you have to ride under before entering the dunes.

The dunes are sweet.... Lots of crazy rednecks up there... usually some hot chicks too!

Very true on all accounts! Holiday weekends are a blast (labor day weekend especially!) Tons of bada$$ trucks/buggies, hotties etc lol. Sometimes gets kind of scary in the non-directional areas when you're on a bike or quad since there is so many people going in every direction.

no they have a boat launch at silver lake but ita alot funner to go onto lake michigan with the skis silver lake gets very crowded and super choppy lake michigan is the way to go i guess it is like 100ft to the water my judgement for distance sucks but anyway i would suggest waiting till you get there to but the flag and bracket cause they are cheap only like 10 for bracket and 25 for flag but make sure the bike has a spark arrestor the screen style or they wont let you into the dunes i had to buy a 400 pipe
2 years ago just to get in there on my yz450f it sucks that they enforce it cause what are you gonna do start the sand on fire come on but they are pricks about that
