I left my Yamalube in Pauls truck so i have to wait until next smith ride to pick it up. No worries...I was looking to try some new oil. My local shop carries Maxima as their main aftermarket oil.

They did not however ahve the type specifically made for watercraft. Is there any diffrence? I have looked into it much. Anyone have any light to shed on the subject?

Run the super M, It's one of the best Synthetic fortified oils you can get.

I run Klotz benol in my SJ and SXR, it is a castor based oil........ as far as the stocker goes, I run it WOT all the time so not worrying about buildup (Called Klotz recommended only use it on high demand motors or if you are going to run the motor hard all the time, otherwise run a synthetic or petroleam based oil instead)

So you can run the cheaper stuff on a ski that can do WOT but for a freestyle ski that doesnt stay at WOT for long you run the better oil to keep the oil fomr building up....

Did i get that right or did I throw myself off?

My motor is ported and hits 190 lbs compression..........

Plus I got it in bulk, so cheaper........... I use to run AMSOIL and MOTUL before that............

I have always had good luck with 927. I was told not to run it in my bike because it is thick and clogs the power valve, but on a ski there is no reason it wouldn't work just fine.

Oil threds like this usually end up in bickering because everyone has an opinion on oil. (Almost like asking who makes the best ski)

That said, I have had good luck with 927 in my skis. I run SupeM in the bike, also with good results. Any quality synthetic oil should be fine to run. I like the avalability of Maxima oils, as most bike shops tend to carry them should I be somewhere other than home.

Now for the debate out mixing different oils. Yes you can mix.....I never mix oil.....It's ok if its the same brand.... Don't go down that road! Consider yourself warned.

So, I'm wondering what the deal is with TCW3 oils? I've always used it only because it was recommended by the manufacturer, but most of the oils you guys speak of aren't TCW3.

My local bike shop carries a few different brands of oil, Maxima, Torco etc, but none of them are TCW3 rated. Whats the rule of thumb here? I'm not talking specific brands, but what does one look for when choosing oil?

Ah ok, so a normal 2-stroke oil is fine to use then? I guess when push comes to shove, they are all the same engine, just different cooling, etc.

A few of my mates have had big debates on this for the longest time!

I use maxima 927 mostly,

when I am out at the lake I use the oil from one of my couches, which is ( GULP) the cheapest walmart stuff, $5 for a gallon.

some times, I even... GULP, mix the 2 oils.

thats right, half 927, half tech2000.

No problems whatsoever, from 5 boats running like this, with LOTS of hours.

I used the Maxima 927 today, just for something different. I can say that I love the way my ski now smells like a go-kart, but found that I kept fouling plugs.

I'm sure the castor based oils should run less oil to fuel ratio, but I never really thought about it until the plugs atrted fouling. In saying that, 40:1 is too much oil, right? My engine is ported and built to run WOT. Can anyone recommend a safe ratio ti use with a castor baded oil like the 927?

Cheers.
