Making Hood Handles Superjet

Is there a way to make handles on a RN hood? I was thinking if you just cut them in and then put a kind of weather stripping around the edges so it was comfortable?? but then you would take on more water is there a way to access them from the back and glass something in from behind, has it been done before? I looked at the price of the pre make ones and if i screw up a hood its cheaper to but a used hood then buy the holds...and ideas?

you got fiberglass and resin? should be fairly easy to make. mold off of a plastic bottle, im looking at a windex bottle right now thinking that would work.

I made my own on my SN about 10 years ago and they are still working great. I just cut the holes to the shape I wanted. In the hood liner I cut a couple access holes that I later covered with a plastic panel with pop rivets and silicone.
For the "cups" I used old oil jugs. I just epoxied them in place. 10 years later so far so good. They have survived many years of learning to roll and back flip. I'm actually amazed they held up to the impact of the water.

That sound like a much better idea then mine!

Munki, are you planning on dropping some in, or cutting and glassing some in before a paint job?

My ski is painted also, but if you just cut out the holds and shape your hand holds you can do the rest of the work from the inside of the hood with out destroying the paint job....i think lol

Trying to visualize - would it work to cut all the way through both layers of the hood, insert the hold and seal it from both sides (without restricting airflow too much between the liner and the outer shell)?

first im thinking of cutting thru both and patching the liner like Danceswithsuperjet said, ill be plugging the holes in the front of the hood and over sizing the holes in the back...
