Had a old school ADA 5mm Chuck built it for me last year.Hung a ring on the rear cylinder exaust port side.Minor cylinder damage no head damage so Im thinking bore new pistons and Im back sking in a week or so.WRONG I really didint want to send it Chuck for a minor top end issue. So a buddy recommends a machine shop and I go see them Talk to the guy that is going to do the work,he new his stuff we agree to go from 82.50 t0 83.00.Next day in the pistons Im on the water by Wed WRONG

I get the call about 2:00 from the guy he says bad news cant get 83.00 pistons they are on back order and I mis bored the back cylinder I didnt tighten the cylinder in the jig enough and off center the rear cylinder.:shooter3:

The cylinder now needs new sleeves from ADA at 129.90 each The problem is the sleeves start at 84.00 I dont trust him to do the work involved in saving the cylinder

What should I do with this shop. What is their resposibility in this boring abortion

I will send the cylinder to Chuck On Monday and hopefully get it back in a month or so So there goes the month of June:sadwavey:

I would ask the shop what they intend to do about compensating for their "mistake".

he agreed to do the work you talked about, and must of felt like he could do it. If he can't get the pistons in on time - OK (give them to at cost). But since he F***ed up the cycl. hes got to do something for you.

I know if i was him (machinist) - i would atleast take care of the labor and get the job done right.

i've been a position like before and it sucks!

They should have the two sleeves replaced. They probably wont front the bill for it to be sent to Chuck and have him do the work. They probably feel they can do it it was their mistake so they will fix it.

I know I wouldn't trust the shop after they forgot the tighten the jig

I'd at least give him the chance to make it right. If that means the machinist has to get 84mm pistons, then he should eat it, or possibly offer to do the work at cost. Maybe that will help him remember to be more careful next time. Oh and somebody will need to port match the new sleeve(s).

Their answer was pistons at cost ,100 a hole to resleave but couldnt do the cleanup work on porting But they dont know they have to remove some billet from the raw cylinder.new sleeves are 84-89

I dont want them even looking at my cylinder Im so Piised off about this
After he said that he says well you know its a pretty exotic for a Jet-ski

I didnt even let him finish the sentance before I said then you think you would Tripple check your work.

That sucks Skinnyman. I'd think that they should definately rectify the situation like stated above. They took the work....they flocked it up. If they're reputable at all, they should make the situation right....and fast! Texoma is coming up fast!

If you want to charge people to do work then you also have ot be able to do work of a std that ok to be charged
Quite clearly they cant
they need to get it back to the point it was before they stuffed it
If this means new sleeves then so be it

to me the price of the pistons isn't a big deal you were already going to pay whatever price before they screwed up. They should fix the mistake at no charge to you. See if they will cover the sleeves and since they can't do the clean up work then cover that too. Then you pay the shipping to Chuck and the cost to install the sleeves

They should be responsible to pay for the cylinder to be back in the same condition as before they got it. Even if you take it somewhere else to be done.

I guess you have never made a mistake either.

See if the shop will pay to send the cylinder back to ADA, have ADA do all the work and the shop cover the expenses.......

I am not going to even respond to this because it was a pointless post

Everybody makes mistakes......... That was my point, the difference is how you go about correcting the mistake that seperates a good shop form one that just does not care.....

I do not know what you do for a living, but I would think that you would want someone to give you the benifit of the doubt when you made a mistake, who knows, you may end up with a million dollar contract because you took care of a 300.00 mistake.........

I agree but I also feel for Skinny not wanting to trust there abilities due to a simple mistake. (and yes we all make mistakes) If it was a normal off the shelf factory Cyl then they could have at it but due to it being "exotic" to them I would be skeptical on leaving it in their hands

I agree about that, let them send it to ADA to get corrected or Team Scream.... They need to do all the footwork.
