Super Jet Low Compression in 701 62T

Hey everyone finally got a rn for a good deal and got some rebuild motor questions. The ski had low compression since I got it, the front cylinder had 150 the rear was at 60. Anyway I pulled the head and the o-ring on the girdled head was busted, got a new one and the compression came up significantly to 185 in the front and 125 in the rear. I am thinking of getting a rebuild kit but not sure where to get the best bang for your buck. Any suggestions? The motor has a head, coffman dry pipe, dual jetted carbs and that is all to my knowledge. The owner claimed it has never been rebuilt. Do you think I can get away with just a top end kit or just spend the money now so I know everything is up to par? Any comments are greatly appreciated!

You need to take it apart and inspect everything. Old skis always need a lot of maintenance because nobody ever seems to do it.

I finally got around to pulling it apart and wow was I shocked to find what was inside. I did find the problem to say the least.... The rear piston rings were welded to the piston causing the low compression and the bottom end was full of milky water. Everything looks to be ok from a visual inspection but it needs some serious help. I am just going to rebuild it, where should I get the rebuild kit from (specifically top end) I want to order it this week. Although I did find a riva/tim judge ported and polished 701 with epoxied cases and head etc for $1,000 but I really dont know if that motor is worth it or just rebuild mine... What is your 2 cents?

A rusty crank wont last very long depending on how bad it is. Do a careful inspection.

Talk to jetmaniac about one of his packages. Maybe your core is good enough for an exchange. That would be the best bang for your buck. I just went through a full rebuild on mine with an oversized bore and diy sport porting and with all the time spent it made me think real hard about one of his motors. You'll just drop it in with his specs and that quick turnaround counts for something

X2 /\ contact Chris Jetmaniac Think he gives 500 in discounte if you sende your old engine too him. I run the 718 cc and it hits hard for a small engine.

We're just across the bay in Clearwater, I have most pistons sizes in stock, gaskets and seals. Boring work can be done in most cases within week turnaround. We use a HAAS VF-2 CNC for very precision on centerline boring and SUNNEN honing equipment for the best boring work around in the state.

I have been trying to get over to you guys but I can't because I work m-f, 8-5, unfortunately your not open on the weekends. Ballpark what would you charge for a top end kit and basic boring and honing, nothing crazy(not looking for an exact number just trying to get an idea)?
