Super Jet Losing ground when too hot?

Some basic background info- freshly assembled motor, 61x electronics, msd enhancer. All parts ran last year and no electrical changes this year. Grounds are all tight, will confirm spark shortly.

I just finished assembling the ski, and started to crank it to get fuel through the system. I was having a bit of trouble getting it to fire up ( maybe spark related ). I did notice my power wire from ebox to starter got a bit warm, so i stopped until it cooled off. Then tried again and As the motor got warmer from cranking, it stopped, and the selonoid started to click like it was a loose ground. Nothing was overly hot. After motor cooled off a little it would crank again till it got too warm, then would click again. What could be causing it to do this? I believe I have more than one problem at the moment, but would like to figure out the overheating problem first.

The cables get hot, because of the current it draws when you crank it continuosly for "long time"
If all battery connections are secure and tight, could it be you draining your battery when cranking for to long?

Do you own a DMM?

If so, a voltage drop test on your starting system should be performed. PM if you need any help or an explanation on how to do it. Guessing and changing parts only to find out it was a wire the whole time sucks.

Turned out to be a shotty terminal end on my e-box to starter wire. With a new end on it, it seems to work fine. But Tzane did a great troubleshooting write up for me. Hopefully he'll post it up so this thread/ a new thread can be stickied to help troubleshoot these problems.
