there is a good point above about the guy's garage in the background of the 97. He takes care of his gear for sure. The 96 looks kinda beat, as does the garage its in.

I would buy the '07 before the '96 no questions asked...don't buy into somebody elses half assed ski and save yourself the headaches.

I vote against a square nose. Your going to wishing you had a round nose the entire time and eventually end up buying one anyways. You said the 96 was a race boat. Is it set up for top end or bottom end power? Does it match. The type of riding you intend to do? Is it water logged? Damaged at all?

There are a lot of variables to consider. I am biased towards the 07 but personally if you bought that one you could build up the motor to your own liking.

Just my $.02

I agree. The owner of the 96 said he bought two of them from a racer in Denver. Here is what he said:

I didn't build it. I've had it since 2006. It originally had a Factory Type 4 dry pipe in it. I switched out the pipe for a Factory B pipe to get more freestyle performance. I attached a pics of it with the dry pipe just for fun. The thing still tears your arms off in the mid-high range, but it did improve the bottom end for hitting wake/waves. I also changed the domes on the head to get it in the 165psi range. It was setup to run in Denver's altitude and the compression was way high when I brought it down to sea level. As mentioned above, I changed the prop, ride plate, and removed the hull extensions. I also added a bilge pump and flush kit.

When I told the guy I was trying to decide between his and an 07, he actually pushed me that way, saying that if its a good price then he would rather have a ski that is newer and less modded if he could do it all over again. He answered many other questions and seemed very genuine. I was suprised that he sort of talked me into getting the 07 after I linked him to the ad.

In the end, I just got off the phone with the guy selling the 07 and made a commitment to pick it up this weekend.

To me this speaks volumes. Guy is probably borderline OCD, which is a good thing when it comes to maintenance and upkeep, IMO.

You won't even want to ride the sxr again! Once you get used to the Yamaha you'll be rippin!

Keep us posted man. And great choice on the superjet!

I have a feeling it will be as you say. Its nice to have the SXR as a back up though...I can let my buds ride it when they come over. What a great friend am I to buy them a jet ski. :brap:

Wow, I looked at that '07 a few weeks ago. Small world. Kinda strange he hasn't sold it yet. When I talked to him I asked why he was selling and he said he thought he would ride more freestyle with it but he decided to stick to bouys.

Yeah the seller was very knowledgable and a great guy. I think he said he was first in the state about 10 years ago around the bouys. He met me halfway to San Antonio and we did the deal. I am now the proud owner of an 07 SJ! Took her for a spin yesterday afternoon and spent some time in the water. Rides much different than the SXR, so it's going to take a little getting used to. First thing I am doing is changing out the grips. The ODI Rouges are just a little too big, my forearm was burning after 30 min. I think I will either go with some ODI Xtremes or maybe another set of Troy Lee's since I like them on my SXR. Also I think it has 4 degree bars so I might switch to 0 degree. I might need to check out the B-pipe, maybe tune it up some.

Overall this ski is in excellent condition and it rips! I need to get used to the footholds too. Makes the tray a little harder to get into off the knees for sure. If I fall less this wouldnt be much of a problem though... :)

So day two went much better...I'm picking up the new SJ quickly. The bottom end hits hard, launches me out of the water when I nail it. I ran it for a while then stopped to check the b-pipe using the splash method and it is running too cool. I found out the top was open quite a bit so I closed it and I made sure the middle screw was closed. I tried to access the bottom screw and for the life of me I could not get the allen key in the grub screw. I cut my hands up pretty good trying to lock it in and adjust it. No such luck. Is there a trick to this or am I going to have to take the pipe out?

In the end, I decided to open up the top screw a 1/4 turn and just run it. It seems to be running great. Still need to work on my stance though if I plan to go WOT for any length of time.

Check out my boy on it, he thinks it's his! Maybe one day.
