Looking for advice on modding my 93 blaster1

Location

Hi all,
I recently bought a bone stock 93 Waveblaster1. It seems to run decent. My 16 year old son has taken it out several times and I have taken it out briefly too.
These few rides have taught us that these are very fun to ride and that it would be a great father-son project to mod this blaster a bit.
The only mod we have made so far is adding MX handlebars and new grips.
We are reaching out to this forum for some advice as we plan the upgrades and shop for parts.

Riding:
We live and ride on a freshwater lake in central Wisconsin (Lake Winnebago, Oshkosh)
We love to jump boat wakes and generally just bomb around trying freestyle (no real skills tho...)
Occasional trips to lake Michigan for playing around on somewhat larger waves
My son and I are both 6'6" tall and weigh about 220 lbs (son is a bit lighter - big surprise).

Goals:
Reliability is pretty high on the list for sure.
Low end punch. Not looking for high speed
Reasonable cost & longevity
Ease of tuning and maintenance
Fun factor!!

Parts we already have in hand ready to install:
FPP B pipe Mod chamber for blaster
ADA Racing girdled head with 35cc domes (185 psi, 91 octane)
Skat Trak 13/18 swirl prop
Rebuilt e-box with MSD Enhancer.

Initial Plan:
Rebuild the single sbn44 carb and rejet for the fpp mod pipe.
Install head, pipe, prop, and MSD e-box
Remove oil injection, install primer

Other skis in our family fleet:
'90 SN Superjet with a 61x 701, single 44 carb, Coffman 'cheater' pipe. We ride it as well but will not be modding it now.
'98 Waveblaster 2. Bone stock. Doesn't want to start when cold so I'll be rebuilding carbs and installing primer.

Main questions we are noodling on:
Is the single 44mm carb OK for the blaster build plan? Remember we are after low end punch and ease of tuning.
What suggested carb jetting for the planned motor stuff?
Should we run AM flame arrestor or stick with stock?
Is the Skat Trak 13/18 swirl gonna be a good fit for us here?

Thanks in advance. We are very excited to get going on this and are looking forward to your advice!!

Get a mikuni 46 off amazon. Not a huge gain, but will compliment your other parts. Stick with the oem flame arrestor and remove 2 of the screens.
While you have the pump apart clean up the veins and blueprint/polish the pump. Clean the old grease out of the tail cone and put new grease in. Make sure to properly align the pump during the reinstall.

44mm carb:
125P
145M
26psi pop off

46mm carb
130P
150M
24psi pop off.

Thanks Quinc!
I was considering a 46mm carb but I'm not sure what else would be required and if it was worth the effort and time vs sticking with 44mm.
It would be tempting to buy a new 46sbn and get it ready to drop in if all that was really required was jetting it correctly. I believe it would bolt right up to my 61x correct?

What about reeds? I forgot all about those. Stick with stock or what?

46 will bolt right now. but worth opening the intake to match it. Stock reeds are great. Also get an aftermarket aluminum waterbox. TDR, Factory pipe, Jetmanic etc. Only a matter of time until the stock fiberglass box blows ups.

Hi bry! I'm from Wisconsin as well. My sister lives in sherwood, right by winnebago. Haven't went riding out their yet but would like to! I live in pewaukee but ride the lake country area/okauchee.
I would stick with the single 44 for ease of tuning and run the stock air box as well with the screens removed. Nice and simple and the 44 can handle a b pipe just fine. I'd stick with the stock waterbox for now. It's quiet and the waveblaster has the easiest waterbox to access so if it's not leaking, keep it. Very easy to swap if the time comes. Stock reeds are great until the metal breaks and they take out your motor. Not a bad idea to change them out for some fiberglass or carbon ones. Fiberglass like boyesen 2 stage power reeds will last longer.
Get your flywheel lightened too! Will go along nicely with the Enhancer.
The zeeltronic ignition is another plug and play option but would a couple hundred more all together but give you even better throttle response.
However, the pipe and head alone should be enough to keep you satisfied for quite a while IMO, especially in a blaster.

Hi Roseand - I really appreciate your input as well!
I actually bought this blaster (and a blaster 2) from a family in Sherwood. Hit me up if you are ever in the Oshkosh area and want to ride!

We are leaning towards keeping the single stock 44 carb for now and just rebuild and rejet it for the pipe and head combo. Saves some dough I suppose.
We would like to port the motor just a tad at some point but not this round.
I will look into the reeds and flywheel a bit more.
Zeeltronic ignition will be a research item for now as well.
The waterbox thing is a head scratcher. How catastrophic is it if it blows up? If it is not too dangerous, i would like to postpone that upgrade for another season.

Oh wow! Small world. Not catastrophic if it blows. Definitely can postpone it.
Porting can make a huge difference when done right! I recommend sending it off to a pro to have it done if you plan on doing anything other than an exhaust port template.

Roseand - are you referring to the DIY magnetic porting templates?
I find that interesting but wonder if some minor DIY port work is even a good idea. I'm game to try if it fits the rest of my engine mods. I do know I would want to keep it mild and reliable.

How about the ride plate, intake grate, and nozzle? I would love to hear some suggestions on those as well.

I'm definitely interested in a AM intake grate but not sure which one to try. I believe grates for the SJ's will fit.
Desk_jockey: nice blaster build. I actually read thru that some time before buying this b1. What carb setup are you running BTW?
