Looking at a B1 tomorrow. Little help!?

Im going to go look at a B1 tomorrow and don't know much about them. The guy that has it now doesn't know much about it, so I am guessing it is stock other than a crappy paint job. Supposedly it starts good and runs fine. He said it hooks up real good out of the hole, so hopefully the pump and impeller are descent. It's a 96. He picked it up off a guy from AZ and it is currently in NV. He didn't sign his name on the title and it has the old reg #'s on it from AZ. Minus the reg tag. He's asking $800.00 for it. What are you guys's thoughts and opinions? maybe even a suggestion or 2?

Thanks
Jay

Price is definitely right! If it is really a 96, then its sort of a "limited" model...it has the Dual Carbed 701 running Dual 38 mm Mikunis instead of the single 44mm that was standard on the 93-95 models. In 96 they had the dual carbs and also came out with the Waveblaster 2 with the 760.

Invest in a compression gauge if you don't already have one...701's run a staggered compression..should be looking around 145 psi..they usually vary around 7 psi from front to back.

There are also other small checks you can do..crawl up under neath and look at the impeller through the intake grate..see if its torn up. While you are under neath see if there is any major damage to the bottom of the hull. Check out for stress cracks on the sides towards the back of the hull. You can check motor mounts by sort of pulling the motor side to side. Bad motor mounts are that big of a deal as you can find good used ones on here, or buy new ones pretty easily.

If compression is good and the title situation is legit, then you better buy that beast. Good luck and post up pictures when you get it!

$800? What questions do you have?

If it even runs and the hull is in one peice, what do you need a compression guage for.

If you chicken out, let me know, I'll drive up and buy it myself.

Picked it up today. Well it was yesterday now. But I can't wait to get into it and see how it is. So far it looks super clean. Compression was good. Fired right up. Hull looks pretty good. Motor mounts are solid. It is a 95 though. Not the 96 like I thought, but I don't care much. Just real stoked to have it. I'll try to post pics. I messed up last time.

Couple of things get my attention right away:

1) Get rid of that oil tank
2) That pure white fuel tank not being all discolored is awesome!
3) Get a new waterbox. It's not uncommon for the WB1 waterboxes to blow up (I won't get into why), but it looks like that one probably did and they duct taped it up....just get rid of it. A good used oem one will set you back, oh, about $50-ish or so.
4) The red paint on the 1995 models was notoriously terrible. If you are going to paint the rest of the ski, take the time and prep the lower hood section as good as you can. Otherwise, it'll only peel again

(DISCLAIMER: I am an idiot. I know nothing about jet skis, thus anything I say or suggest should not be trusted as accurate.)

Yeah, if someone has one for sale used in the for sale section, grab it if it's $60 or under. There are times of the year (of course when I usually need one in a hurry) when you can't find them to save your life for under $100.
And, actually, I wouldn't ride yours if I were you until I replaced it.

I'm holding out on the ride til I get some things done. And the waterbox is definitely getting replaced. Plus I am going to be waiting on title for a bit. The last 2 owners never did a bill of sale. And they lost the title. I'm in NV, bought it from someone in NV, but the guy that lost the title lives in CA. So I am having to do a "lien sale" form from NV to get title, before I can register it. Gay... Good news is the ski is not stolen according to CA. Anybody know of an easier quicker way of gaining title?

Thanks for the help too. I really appreciate it.
