Little problem in the ebox.....

Location

so here is the problem... this past Sat. I fell off the ski and it shut down when the key came out of the switch, it put the key back in and nothing, kept trying and then all it did was buzz from the e-box, I got it back to the dock and when I jumped the red wire to the starter, it would turn over but not start, then it would start only when I jumpd the red wire and at the same time I hit the start button, I could also shut it off by hitting the stop button. Other than that if I hit the start button alone it just buzzes in the ebox, should I order a new starter rely or a new start stop switch?? Or is it something else.

There is one thread on this but it is very confusing, I may just order the solenoid/relay and see how it goes. Do I need to pull the motor to get the ebox out of my SXR?

There is a simple way of testing the solenoid.

The solenoid has 4 wires, 1 thick wire to the battery, 1 thick wire to the starter, a thin wire to the start button and a thin wire to negative/ground.

Short the thin wire that normally goes to the start button to positive 12v. That bypasses the start button.

I will give that a try, I have not priced them yet, I was going to try to get a used one. I had great luck last season, not one break down or issue and everytime I head out this season I have an issue......it must be Karma.

Careful buying used relays...

Figure on spending around $50. I got mine from extremethrottle and got it within a few days. Order from him today and you should have it by this weekend.

I thought I had a bad starter relay but before I bought one I cleaned all the connections and it turned right over...10 mns of work saved me some good money..

Clean all connections like SXRforever is saying. That is the problem. I've had it happen to my sxr.

UPDATE!! I pulled the ebox, cleaned all the connections inside and replaced the starter solenoid with a new one, pulled the cables off the starter and cleaned them, and cleaned the battery terminals and cable ends, put dielectric grease in/on all connections.........it worked like a charm,...it fired right up and put two tanks through it without skipping a beat.... I am going to make this part of my annual maintenance on the ski....now all I need to do is get into shape.... I am sore as hell today.

Thanks for all the help guys!!!!
