Line X reinforcement?

Has anyone tried to Line X the outside of their ski to provide reinforcement? I just got a square and am interested to see if the reinforcement aspect of the job would work? I already know about the potential handling problems, so no need for those details. Has anyone tried this before?

anytime you mess with the bottom of the hull you are gonna effect handling in one form or another. unless you are getting it for free, it isn't worth the time or the money really.... just reinforce from the inside...

plus the added weight of it too....

No way. The weight per reinforcing value is not going to be very good at all. I think you'd have more reinforcement out of 5oz cloth. 15lbs is a lot to add to a ski when you don't have to.

If you had an extra ski and a free hook up at Line X to try it, would you? I'm in that position and would think that the Line X might offer sufficient reinforcement since it will be one complete shell around the hull. I just figured that nobody has tried it, therefore nobody has a definite answer. I might work great, or might be a log. I know that Line X can be sanded to a smooth finish. Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks GDFL.

If your hull did crack the lineX would hold it together, as far as being reinforcement I doubt it will make it any stronger isnt it fairly flexible?

It would also hurt like a mother ********er if you went sliding across it!

I rode with a guy that did this to an sj. It was ugly, it was heavy, it changed the ride a tiny amount BUT the worst of it was after three months it developed a water pocket inside that grew and grew till we called it a pregnant ski.

It eventually almost all came off in one piece and then he had the nightmare task of removing the rest and then prepping and painting.

Not suggested at all.
