just got a nice package from bloswion bilge, fitting, hood straps, and limiting rope. :Banane01:
reading the install directions for the limiting rope they say to hook a loop under the hood latch!? some GRINDING may be needed!? wtf.
i tryed it and if its not locked it pops off if i pull it. idk how strong that "lock" is, but is this really how people run it? theres gotta be a better way.

I think my brother Gasgas was less than pleased when he got his kit also. I believe he ended up installing a SS u-bolt somewhere below the hood latch to mount it. It mounts at the two white holes.

I personaly think that is a silly design. I see people doing it that way, but I simply made my own and mounted it to dash. A shame that you had to spend that kind of $$$ to realize you have to change it to make it worth while. Home Depot has everything you need to make your own and or to fix this one. I would personally send this back and make one yourself.

I made mine from the home depot route, easy enough and I was a little disturbed about the under the latch thing. but it hasn't let go yet and my friend put his under the lock part of the latch, I put mine between the hood part and the lock part. no grinding needed. I also made my own hood straps. just incase the latch went bye-bye.

ive made my own as well, people generally make fun of them though!

I used stainless EYE bolts thru the handlepole, and dash area to mount the rope.

Im making some more soon, maybe a bit cleaner.

I used the surgical tubing from lowes to keep them tight, and it rotted after one year outside, I might cut up some cheap bungi cords for this try.

Ditto what others have said. Make your own from Home Depot. I found stainless caribeaners (sp), stainless eye bolts, and nylon rope. I cut the rope so that the pole was about 2 inches from the stop. This way when the rope gets wet, it stretches and leaves me about 1 inch from the stop. I also sealed the rope ends with some shrink tubing and used a bungee cord to pull it away when the pole goes down. Probably cost me $25 bucks and is way more heavy duty than Blowsion's deal.

Not to beat a dead horse, but make your own.
I got all the stainless hardware from West Marine. They sell bungie cord by the foot, along with rope. They also have stainless "staples" looking things to crimp the rope. And the have these nylon slider things.....

Ill get some pics shortly and post.

Yeah make your own. Use a beefy caribiner though and use a pad-eye - not an eye bolt. I've broken many of the average-sized eye-bolts, caribiners, and a couple hood latches before coming up with this. I like the folding pad eye because it doesn't give the rope any leverage to snap it like it could an eye-bolt or a ubolt.

Fixed the link. Yeah I use S3711-0007 from www.bosunsupplies.com and . $8 though, never shopped around for anything cheaper. And i think S0120-0080 for the caribiner but maybe one size up. My knots have always held up fine, never used those bling crimp things. Duct tape around the bungee hooks...

whats wrong with putting it under the hood latch? I had it on an sxr for a whole summer and on my superjet all last summer and never had an issue or had to grind anything. when you close the latch just line the loop up with that space between you hood and top deck. personally i wouldn't want anything sticking into the tray because it's just something else to bust your knee or foot on.

I'm thinking the same thing. Mine is under the latch. Th latch has a backer plate bigger than the washers that you would use on the u bolt. I could see the u bolt ripping out easier than the latch.

but what happens when your hood latch fails?
is it insurance or liability?
i got a ubolt and in the process of install, looks like it will work out quite a bit nicer! pics when done of course ;)
