limiting rope install

Personally, every item has its purpose. The hood latch holds the hood down and the U-bolt/eye bolt/whatever you use holds the limiting rope. I wouldn't want them to be dual purpose because the strength of one or the other will be compromised. You go up a wave, the ski falls out, the pole is extended, and the hood comes off when the rope comes into play. Now your ski is susceptible to sinking and you've probably ripped your pole off at the same time.

Edit: Ok so you have hood straps? Instead of your hood being pulled off, the latch opens and your pole is still torn off. Either way, not a good situation in my eyes.

To each his own i guess. never had the latch come open because of the lock. Does anybody actually have picture fom where they ripped there hood latch out? I'm not saying the u bolt is a bad Idea I just dont think its neccesary.

Just ride
if you have the latch open its only because it's not installed right, land hard, or hit bottom and at that point the limiting rope won't be an issue. If you're hood latch isn't string enough to hold a rope then you need a new one.

what if one day you just forget to flip the switch. im sure its happened.

oh and wydopen you were right the eye bolt was too short to use both nuts, i just used the nylock nut on top and tightened down on the eye. sits almost too flush.

ropes on and working the ubolt is super strong(i pulled up on it REALLY hard and it didnt even make a sound, i feel safe now. screw that latch ********.

For Those About To Rock
About 4 yeasr ago I was riding surf - had the handlepole limiting rope under the hood latch. long story short, its not the latch base plate that fails but the pivot pin in the hood latch. I tore the latch itself almost completly off the boat with the limiting rope. Only thing that kept the hood on was the hood straps.
Mount the handlepole limiting rope seperate of the hood latch! Don't say I didn't warn you. : )

Guys please use and eyebolt do nor use the hood latch this is fact it will fail. Your buddies dont want to spend an hour or more trying to get your ski off the bottom of the river or ocean.

I would show you a picture, except for the hood is now at the bottom of the Atlantic somewhere, and we were lucky we got the ski back at all. It can happen.
