lifevest weight

I know the name of the thread might sound dumb, but I think my vest is heavy- and I want to compare it to a few others. All the pounds add up, so I dont want to leave out anything that might save me a few pounds...

I have an o'brien neoprene lifevest...

I will weigh mine in a few days when I can get my hands on a postal scale...

Until then, if I could get a few weights to compare it to- that would be great! Fl-Cracker... I know you weighed yours... lets hear it... Thanks.

Neo vests usually are heavy, unless you get a wakeboarding vest thats super thin and would offer no flotation if knocked out. You'd be face down.

I use a Jetpilot "The Cause". Only because its Canadian Coast Guard approved, and when you wear a CCGA vest, you no longer need to carry a fire extinguisher on your watercraft.

Neo is warmer which is a good thing 10 months of the year up here. I don't care how heavy it is. Probabaly 7lbs dry? Never weighed it.

damn... wish we didnt have to carry the stupid fire extinguisher....

I will look into getting a new vest... and maybe keep the neoprene vest for the cold weather riding... Seems like the slippery matrix vest is popular

My Slippery Matrix is quite a bit lighter than my neoprene Switch but is a bitch to buckle in the back.

DuDe, you have been reading way to many of my threads. lol

But for the record I have a Billabong Pull over Wake vest that cant weigh more then 10oz's.... the padding is all gel, and it stays very light even when wet.... I like it mostly because I cant even tell Im wearing it.

Its not very floaty, but offer's great protection on the front/back/ and on the sides for the over/under rotated roles.:crutches: No straps to get cought on shiet.

Yes they are. Why the hell they moved the buckles to the back is beyond me. I sold mine 2 days after I bought it. Luckily I found an old one that buckles in the front.

Yo Cracker,
Have you ever been stopped by the DNR and asked about that vest? Anyone else wear this type of vest? I think I am supposed to wear at least a type III vest according to state law....

not yet, but i have only used it so far at Daytona. Another guy I ride with has always used a Simalar vest with no issues.... Its not for everyone, but I feel very comfortable using it.... but I do relize that accidents can happen, thats why I dont ride alone.

anyone have experience with, have a chance to see in person, or try on/compare:
-Fly Racing pullover
-Slippery Matrix Pullover
-Jetpilot- side entry

Looking for a non-neoprene jacket that is pretty comfortable as well as being somewhat easy to get into.

I am going to stick with the USCG approved to stay legal and stay alive... I ride alone about 90% of the time...

i run a illegal vest its made by straight line and its the thinnest foam cell ive seen. i know its risky but with the air in the dry suit it floats me good.
"warning"
this garment is not a life jacket - read before use

When it's illegal, it doesn't matter how thin it is, you might as well skip wearing a vest altogether because:

a.) You're going to get a ticket for it
b.) It won't keep your face out of the water

I like the look of all of these...

-Fly Racing pullover
-Slippery Matrix Pullover
-Jetpilot- side entry

Has anyone had the chance to try all of these? If so, I would love to hear your reviews.
If not, I guess I will just get the one that looks best from Parker....

I would want it to go by:
1)fits good, easy to get on and off
2)weight
3)color/looks

I wish I could try out all of these, but in Ohio there is nobody that sells these vests anywhere nearby.... hopefully some of you guys that live in "ski country" have some shops that carry all of these- and you have tried them on.

I own the Matrix and it feels great, very light, and doesn't get in the way.

That being said, I can barely get it on by myself.

I had an older style pullover matrix, and a slightly newer style one pullover style.
I LOVE them.

light, dry fast, and tons of shoulder room , and neck room.

I never unbuckle it, just loosten tighten as needed.

I just ordered the Jetpilot flight sight entry - Black - L/XL for $64 shipped from jetpilot's website... hope it's good :)

Should be a couple #'s lighter than my neoprene anchor
