Just bought this 09 KLX 110 brand new, trying to do some winter riding (Canada) .. Bone stock bike, impossible to start in the cold ( 0C and below) With choke out the bike needs WOT to start and idles poorly til its warm. While riding, throttle bogs after gear shifts and pops on decel.

I assume mixture is lean due to colder dense air. Whats best approach? Shim Needle? Up Jetting? or adjust fuel mix screw ( D head screw, special tool?)

Air fuel is off. KLXs are super cold natured. They almost have to be totally warm before they will idle alone even down south. Just let it warm up, and adjust the air fuel, popping is caused by being lean.

I forgot!
my son's 50cc is running with the choke half on in the cold weather. maybe richen the screw on the carb. a little heater under a blanket for 10-15 minutes works wonders for cold starts too.

I would defiantly shim the needle up ,you can get a set of small washers for this at Radio shack,is the mixture even still adjustable on those,on a lot of newer stuff it isn't,if it is adjust it for the best idle and leave it alone, thats about all you can do.Also try this shake the bike real hard from side to side before you try to crank it ,it raises the fuel level slightly in the fuel bowl and makes it easier to start when cold.

you really SHOULD rejet for the weather.

if that doesnt sound like something you wanna deal with, you could always just chuck it off a cliff and call it good.
