kawi triples and the x2

im looking for info on any kawi triple. i know nothing about these and i was wondering the pros and cons of the triple in an x2. me and a friend have been talking about shoe horning a couple of triples in our x2's. i know there is a pic floating around here with a 1100 in one so im sure you can make it fit, but my concern is the power vs. the weight. what does one of these triples weight? and what kind of power does a stock one make?
im not trying to race or have a fast top speed boat what im looking for is great bottom end and acceleration. i figure the triple has some good torque and might be well suited for this.

let me know what you guys think, any triple info is greatly appreciated.

I think they would make the X2 even more nose heavy than they already are. If I was building one I would be looking into an 800 with a wetpipe, etc. Plus it just bolts in. Just my 2 cents.

the weight is what is bothering me about this idea for that reason jetx.
my nose feels heavy enough with the 650

I bought a blown up 96 1100 ZXi just because of the engine swap you are mentioning. Well let me tell you that 1100 long block is one heavy mofo! I tore my sirt and jeans trying to carry it. Granted the exhaust pipe is an all cast heavy aluminum piece but that is about the only place to save some weight. I will have to get this engine weighed one of these days. As for HP, the 1100 is listed at 120 ponies. The 800 SXR is listed as 80 ponies. My ultimate goal is to put the 1100 in an SXR and put the 800 from said SXR into my X2. I have seen the 1100/900 in a 750 SX, a 750 SXi Pro, and an SXr now. I have pics of all three.

Sure we have all seen the 1100 in the X2. But if you look closely, they have clearanced the hull for the carbs. They are also probably using a 550 gas tank. Now iam all for light weight and fit/form but I can't imagine how long of a ride time a tiny kart tank would give an 1100 with 3 Mikuni 46/48's let alon all those big bore stroker SJ/SXR's that are running a kart tank.

It is a novel idea but to be completely feasible, I would rather have a qualified light weight hull builder build me a custom hull around the engine. They could stretch the bulkhead back some shortening the tray up on the X2 to make the nose heavyness less. Also they could make the tripple fit in easier. I didn't like wrestling that 1100 out of the ZXi let alone putting it into an X2.

Bottom end? A tripple would be way too heavy for freestyle. I think dropping a tripple into an X2 would make a great race style boat.

thanks guys this was exactly what i wanted to hear. dbrutherford i would love to see those pics.

and btw im wanting it for freestyle/freeride and im still tossing a few ideas around. im sure ill prob end up with a 750-x2. i was just wanting to try something a little different just for the fun of making it work.

If i were to do it, i would get the yamaha 800....puts out around the same hp as a 1100 tripple and its lighter.

When I had my 1100 out of my zxi I thought of this idea.....First of all, it IS heavy...about 1 and a half 750's....what you would expect...i needed my brother to help me haul it out of the hull.

A couple off direct swap issues though:

zxi 1100 has a much larger coupler and wont mesh
zxi has much larger engine mounts and obviously is much longer
no way you could use the stock pipe setup from a zxi, so you would have to find something that bolts to the tripple manifold (probably a 750 pipe would work, its 4 bolts)

now, the plus side.....

the zxi engine is really detuned much like a stock 750/800. HOWEVER, it puts out 120 hp stock.....to say there is potential is an understatement.
I bet with that power, honestly the extra weight WONT be noticed....

I am sure you could make some kind of adapter plate to mount to the exhaust manifold, then be able to bolt up a different type of pipe.

I have also looked at the Factory Pipe Products tripple pipes for an Ultra 150 or STXR 1200. They use three billet manifolds that bolt up to the engine. Then the tripple pipes attach to them with springs like an MX bike. Well those three manifolds look like the same bolt pattern as a Kawie 650/750/800 as well as the individual cylinders on a Kawie 900/1100. My original though was making a set of dual pipes for a Kawie 650/750/800. Since they are duals you could use two smaller pipes instead of one HUGE pipe. Then again I am not a pipe builder or experienced fabricator.

I think wedo was already playing around with the fit of the 951 in the x2... talk to him about it.. I believe he was talking about the biggest seadoo was the 720?

Correct me if I'm wrong wedo!

I have that 96 1100 ZXi I was toying with the idea of putting it in an X2. Well this weekend I stripped it down some more to just part the 1100 out and get my initial cost back. Well I pulled all the electrics out of the ski. Holy crap I will have to go back to school and get an Electrical Engineering degree to figure out what is up with that ski's electrics! There is all kinds of weight there with that ebox and wires. I haven't seen a total loss for an 1100 yet but I may have to find one. I just need a basical electrical system like my stock X2 has. My plan for my 1100 is to just rebuild it and put it in an SXR. They hopefully upgrade the SXR to an aftermarket light weight SXR hull.
