Dual 40 Mikuni I body carbs off an SXR are easy to tune, and make great power. Jets are like $2.25 each vs $8 bucks for a Keihin, plus you can fit a dual airbox in there with just a little work that keeps the water out.

Group K is all about reliability and less $$$.

Not sure which carb is really better but I do know Mikunis have cheaper, readily availably, and easier to find parts than Keihins. I need a throttle drum for my Keihin 42 and the only place to get one is Japan... sucks!

I would say a single 46 is a good carb for a mild 750 for the very reason it won't drink a bunch of gas. I really would like to try a single 48 Novi, Riva power bomb, ect...

I figured the stock duals wouldn't been that hard to tune. You were probably in the ball park but with the different exhaust and pump setup ect... have an effect on what jets you need. But you are on the right path. Try it all and see what works.

Even with the crossover filled as reccomended by Group K, I had low sputter problems until I went back up to a stock 38psi popoff. These carbs seem similar to stock RN duals, nice and crisp. I have no complaints about fuel consumpiton, as many SXR owners do. Often the single carb 701 guy's run out before me.

Vumad im running duel 40 keihins on my small pin 750 . here is a real close place to start with the jetting, to tell the truth i never change it from those. they came off the fpp web site jetting specs for a 750 sxi wet pipe .
i love my duel kehins im getting pretty good power out off them i even ran them on my sxr800 engine as well .

Main jet : 125
Pilot Jet : 75 (Stock)
High speed screw : 3/4 turn out from closed
Low speed screw : 1 2 turns out from closed
Needle & Seat : Stock
Spring : Stock
Comment: Stock spring shortened to produce 20 psi

My 750 came with dual 40 keihin's. I only took them off because I couldn't tune them intime for daytona. I'm not sure if I should tune the stock or stick with the aftermarket when I go to my B-pipe.[/QUOTE]

Hey there fellas,don't know if I'm on right thread but I just did the 1989 x2 convertion, with a 1993 ss 750,I am running a pair of 1996 dual 38mm kehins an would like some in put on the pros an cons of them ??

Old thread I know. But here it is.

Also, to add to the topic, there is a lot of difference between a sp and bp cylinder from what I’ve seen. I have (4) no stamp aka #20 cylinders (43mm port height). Not only is the port location different, but the port size is far smaller on the sp exhaust ports. 32mm from top to bottom. Where as the BP cylinders I’ve measured have a 37mm opening. 5mm is a ton.

The good thing about those SP cylinders with the smaller ports is: they’re more of a blank canvas and you can port them to your desire. Without having a massive exhaust port like on a BP after you hog it out.
