SX/SXi/SXi Pro Kaw 750 trouble!

Putting my kaw 750 back together, and when i went to start it up, it sounded like an explosion, blew my pipe off the coupler, and knocked the exhaust flap completely off? anyone got any reasons?

more info. ski was running fine for the past 4 months, i took the motor out to paint the inside of hull and installed the oil/crank block of plates, and threw it back in started it up once and went to start it up again and boom!

well it backfired for some reason.

on the 750's i find it common for the flywheel to move, shear the key, and throw the timming off.

could be extra fuel built up also.

you will need to do some investigating. hard to tell through a computer.

Had a similar issue with a 750 I was working on, ended up being a sheared key like zigler said. After that happened I used some valve lapping compound on the crank snout and used the flywheel to seat it so it will prevent this in the future.

But I also had this issue with a 650 I used to have, ended up being old plugs. The back fire was loud, my ears were ringing pretty good.

yea, had a trusty ol buddy put my pipe on for me and didnt clamp it together right! had the whole clamp on one side and the otherside was not clamped at all! so i guess thats what caused it to backfire, so i got it back together and took it to the water and it ran fine!and yes it was loud, sounded like a shotgun blast right in my ear not to mention it was at 11:00 at night when it happen, thanks for all the help!

A loose clamp didn't cause the backfire. There are plenty of things that can cause a backfire but since the motor was taken out and all the lines were empty of fuel prior to cranking it, I'm betting you just primed too much fuel into the engine. I do it a lot. Be thankful you just bought that metal waterbox or you'd probably be pulling the engine again to replace the fiberglass one.

a back fire can happen to any ski not just a kawi so watch it there bud just because its a super jet doesnt mean its better:bad3:the only complaint i have is there epoxy paint and how it lifts if you get it hot enuff

obviously you do not understand the concept of sarcasm. oh well.

or it could be leaking needle and seat dripping fuel into motor.
I have also seen thermal expansion of the gas in the tank start a siphon and flood a ski motor.
crack the gas cap and/or turn off the fuel selector to prevent this
