650/X-2 just bought an 89 650sx, newb questions

Finally bought a ski. 89 650sx with a pjs ride plate, intake grate, pipe, and some other goodies. I'm curious about the crankcase oil. I hear that 550's don't use any oil in the case. Is that true for the 650's as well? If so, how does the crank stay lubed? Also, what other maintenance does the pump require? Thanks for the help . Aslo, I've benn rding my friends 650sx until now, and I notice his does like to stay hooked up in corners, will a scoop grate help much with this? thanks

No oil for the crank. Pump shouldn't require any maintenance. By 'hooked' up in corners, do you mean it doesn't slide out so it carves better, or do you mean that it doesn't start to cavitate (no water in the pump) when you take a sharp corner? A scoop grate will pull water into the pump, versus the regular grate that doesn't grab water but is just form the water moving into the pump on it's own.

up in northern California, the sacramento :):):):) hole. Aren't there a couple zerk fittings that require greasing every now and then?

so there's nothing that needs to be maintained on these? really?

Not on a day to day basis asuming everything is in good shape. A 21 year old ski needs a full round of maintenance. All shaft seals need to be changed and bearings inspected for corrosion. Do it right and it can last another 10 years. Dry rev the engine until the head is 180 at the end of each outing to keep engine corrosion minimal.
