Just picked her up this morning. Owner says it ran last summer, looks pretty low hour. Paid $250. I have 650sx that I can steal parts from if needed.

I'm going to peal the decals off and order hydro turf for the rails and new seat cover, probally do the trays while I'm at it, don't like blue, thinking just going white and black..

Need relocate the gas tank filler under the hood, and ditch the oil injection, any help there?

What cheap and easy mods shoulds I do first?

Pretty excited always wanted one of these and this was too cheap to pass up.

Headed out to try to start it.

I think someone may have wired a switch for the stock bilge? I don't see a aftermarket one in it anywhere, can't think what else this switch would be for.

Well I guess i'll have to take a closer look at where that switch wiring goes.

I tried to start it and it just clicks out of the solenoid, so I'm thinking it may be bad but I'm going to pull the starter and make sure it spins first. I've had to replace countless starter solenoids in my old 650sx, like one a season, what causes that?

The 16ga wire and fuse you can see wired in have be a bit concerned also, I'm no electrician.

Could I use this solenoid http://www.watercraftwerks.com/product_info.php?products_id=473

if you have the infamous solenoid clicking make sure you have a good battery with good connections before doing anything else. I got my x2 for 250 too and i had the same solenoid clicking and thought i might be fighting the thing for a long time to get it running...I picked up a fresh battery on the way home from the guys house and had it running by sundown! It very well might be more than this but just wanted to maybe save you some time...

For the internal fuel fill i hear people cap the hole in the tank where the "stock" filler goes with a rubber pipe cap. You can get one at most hardware stores. they are just a rubber cap with a hose clamp around them. Look with the pvc.......

Oh and i would recommend blocking off the hood scoop and drilling holes behind the "hump" in the hood. If you search through the x2 threads you should be able to find some good stuff on this

How do they fill the tank then?

OKay, so here's what I find out today;

I found a Rule 500 bilge tuck way up nicely, the fuse, switch and wiring all look ready too roll, so this was a score.

Starter is bad, internals are nasty. It spins when jumping it off my truck battery but sounds afwul, the guy I bought it from said he had to tap on the starter to get it to start when he rode it last.

I ditched the oil tank since it has the oil block off, don't know why someone left it there just to leak oil slowly I guess.

I need to go get my 650sx parts ski and figure out what to do with the old filler areas next.

The westcoast exhaust off my 650sx should bolt up right?

Here she is cleaned up

Well I got it started today so that means it's time get it ready to ride. Going to start tearing the turf off, and everything else to get ready to turf the rails and trays, recover the seat, and then shave the hood and filler area.

Anyone run fat bars?

Just the thought of that makes my back hurt.

Give it a try and report back. Some 7/8 AL round solid rod is pretty cheap. About $7 for 3 feet around here for 6061-T6

huh? by fat bars I ment 1 1/8" moto bars.

Anyway

Today I got the turf stripped, all the external fillers removed, got most of my westcoast pipe installed, and chopped the hull 1.5".

Lol, I read flat....guess I need to use the zoom function on my phone a bit more.

You'd need to modify your steering head or build a new one to run 1 1/8" bars. It could surely be done, but I don't know if anyone has done it yet. Time to be a pioneer I guess.
