just bought a sn-water in hull

just picked up a sn for reallllly cheap tonight. put it on my stand and could hear water sloshing around inside. had a near full tank of gas and some water in the hull, but i could hear it from the tray.

while inspecting the noise, i pushed down on the tray and the right side is cracked in the corner of the tray.

assuming the foam might be logged, do i need to cut out the tray and refoam, or dry it out and glass over the crack?

whats the best way to go about fixing the issue?

unfortunately it's quite common. definitely cut the tray out... remove the wet foam, seal all the through hull and through bulkhead spots and refoam.

it's a PITA

search refoaming - that should help...

here's a couple of when i did mine...

I cracked my tray this year too. Not sure if there's water in there or not but this thread got me thinkin - would it be a bad idea to drill some holes in the bulkhead like a blaster to let the water out of the tray area into the bilge where it could be pumped out? Or is this just asking for more water-logged foam?

I wouldn't... that would just let more water in behind the bulkhead and make the foam more water logged and the ski even heavier.

when i defoamed my ski i must of had 20lbs of water in there.

Wow pretty large hole you cut there

You could try drilling a couple holes in the back and stand it on its tail for a couple days ,see how much comes out. Seal them back up with something removable so you can drain it if it seems to get alot in over the summer.

Try to seal the crack in the tray if it is small to get you through for now

that does next to nothing. its like a sponge in there.
refoaming isnt that tough of a job, just takes time. really helps you get over the "cutting into your jetski" fear. after a refoam job you will have the confidence to do anything.
