Yea, some skegs might help, I almost flipped a buddies carolina because it started sliding and then 'caught' itself... Those little boats are scary sometimes, our 13 footer DQ (b whaler) is rated for a 30 horse, so we reinforced the transom with seacast and slapped a carb'd yami 40 horse outboard on it. Feels like it will flip if you face it into the wind with the trim slightly up, its open like that is, amazing for fishing!!

What did you use as far as fiberglass for attachment to the hull just mat?

I bolted up a set of Kawi couch sponsons on the Seaking and I found a rudder deal that attached to the turn nozzle and put a scoop grate on it,those three things greatly changed thr handling for the better.

It gives us (standup riders) a whole new feeling about sitdowns. Now when we see a sitdown we think "donor".

Awesome job Chief! :woot:

Every couch I look at, I want to pull the engine and landfill the hull.
Got the standup thing bad!
Luckily my WR500 can serve no other purpose or I would rip its heart out!
And the girl would be so sad :frown:

agreed awesome.

was the weight an issue?

( all the treated lumber in the framing?)

I can see some light treated lumbe4r there, glassed over.

Keep in mind ive never actually piloted a carolin askiff, the other feedback here makes them sound liek pretty LIGHT fiberglass boats.

I normally have fished flatbottomed aluminum boats in the past, and they would ROCK with simply 650 or 701 stock power.

Thanks for the comments.........

Yup, it's got treated plywood for bulkheads and decking. It's heavy but strong. I didn't want to invest in foam cores for this project as it was really just a prototype. If I had known it would work as well as it does I would've sprung for the foam. It doesn't seem to hurt the perf too much, cause it flies!!

Man, I've been wanting to build something like this for so long. I'm glad to see someone has done it. That means I'm not crazy. I'm totally down for the project but the mats for the project would be enough, and then I'd have to come up with a ski. Maybe when I get a super jet, I'll canabalize my 650SX.
